Vietnam Road Administration reports on the handling and repair of rutted road surface damage on National Highway 1 projects, Thanh Hoa - Can Tho section.

According to the Vietnam Road Administration, the investment projects to expand National Highway 1 from Thanh Hoa to Can Tho have rutted areas greater than or equal to 2.5 cm with a total length of over 376,000 m and a total area of nearly 1,273,000 m2.

As of September 30, construction units had only repaired 86% of the rutted road surface area, while 34% of the road surface area with rutted wheel tracks larger than or equal to 2.5 cm had not been repaired, and many sections of faded or missing paint lines had not been repainted.

BOT projects that do not undergo repairs will have to stop collecting tolls - General Department of Roads recommends.

The Vietnam Road Administration has issued many documents urging and reminding, however, many sections of BOT investors, Departments of Transport and Project Management Boards (representing investors) have directed contractors to fix them but they still exist, especially many sections with faded or missing paint lines that have not been restored to ensure traffic safety.

With the above-mentioned shortcomings, the Vietnam Road Administration recommends that the Ministry of Transport direct BOT investors, Departments of Transport, and Project Management Boards to urge investors and contractors to immediately and thoroughly repair the remaining wheel ruts greater than or equal to 2.5cm deep.

"BOT projects that do not undergo repairs will have to stop collecting tolls," the General Department of Roads recommended.

For projects that cannot be repaired, representatives of investors will mobilize other units to repair and fix them using construction warranty funds.

For rutted areas of the road surface that have been leveled by the buffalo ridge to ensure traffic safety, before the warranty period expires, the asphalt concrete layer must be scraped off and resurfaced. For rutted sections with wheel tracks larger than or equal to 2.5 cm and the buffalo ridge has been leveled but is not stable, the asphalt concrete layer must be scraped off and resurfaced.

The General Department of Roads also requested that during the process of carrying out repair and remediation work, units must comply with the instructions and guidance of the Ministry of Transport on remedial solutions and solutions to repair and handle damage to wheel rutting.
