Through investigation, it is known that when Long was in grade 10/12, he was lured by bad friends, Long packed his books and left home to wander for a while, although his family's financial situation was enough to pay for Long's education to be equal to his friends. Fearing that Long would soon become a bad young man, addicted to drugs, his parents encouraged Long to participate in group activities, after which Long was sent to the local militia.

In addition to military training, Long also joined the Commune Police force, fighting against social evils, arresting a number of gambling and drug addiction cases. Seeing that Long was young, healthy, and enthusiastic about social work, the Commune Police Department took the initiative to recruit Long to work as a police officer...

However, in an unfortunate traffic accident, Long had to be hospitalized. After being discharged from the hospital, Long was approached by a group of bad young friends, who lured him to go out late at night. And what had to happen happened, Long was infected with drug poison without even realizing it. At that time, Long had just turned 19.

On January 1, 2016, to satisfy his addiction and have money for personal shopping during the 2016 traditional Tet holiday, Ngo Van Long brought 20 million VND in cash from Quang Nam to Nghe An, then went all the way to the Ban Ve Hydropower Plant area, Tuong Duong district to buy heroin.

Here, Long met and became acquainted with a young Mong man. This man promised to sell "goods" to Long. Long agreed to follow the young Mong man home and stay overnight. In the morning, Long was led into a ravine to meet a Mong man from Laos, who sold Long a block of heroin, worth 17 million VND. Immediately after that, Long took out a small amount to use, and hid the rest in his pocket, planning to bring it back to his hometown in Quang Nam to sell and use during Tet.

Long hopes to have his sentence reduced so he can return home to repent to his parents and build his own family.

When Ngo Van Long was driving from Ban Ve to Hoa Binh town, Tuong Duong district, he was checked by Tuong Duong district police and caught red-handed with 41 grams of heroin. After the drug content was determined, Ngo Van Long was prosecuted and detained for illegal possession of drugs. The case was then transferred to Nghe An Provincial Police Department for further investigation and clarification according to the law.

After completing the case file and transferring it to the provincial People's Procuracy, in early August 2016, Nghe An Provincial People's Court brought defendant Ngo Van Long to trial for illegal possession of narcotics.

During the trial, Long occasionally turned his head to the back of the auditorium as if hoping to see relatives, but there was no one.

When the presiding judge allowed him to have the final say, defendant Ngo Van Long only requested the court to consider reducing his sentence to the lowest possible level so that he would have the opportunity to return to reintegrate into the community, repent to his parents and relatives, and build his own family. The reason was that his grandfather and uncle were martyrs fighting against the Americans. The defendant himself had a good personal history and had no criminal record. After deliberation, the Trial Panel sentenced Ngo Van Long (born in 1994), residing in Quang Nam province, to 14 years in prison.

Long bowed his head and got in the car to return to the Detention Center. Because he could not control himself against the temptation of drugs, Long let his youth pass by in prison...
