At the pomelo orchard of Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thuy's family in Trung Nghia hamlet, as the Mid-Autumn Festival approaches, the number of customers placing orders is increasing. Mr. Thuy happily shared: "My orchard has 250 fruit-bearing trees. Thanks to good care, the pomelos are large, with beautiful peels. By the end of July, the segments are plump, and we can pick and select them to sell to customers. Every day, customers from Vinh City and Thai Hoa Town call to place orders in increasing numbers, so I don't need to take them to the market. However, this year there are fewer pomelos than last year, but the selling price has increased to 25,000 VND/kg (compared to 20,000 VND/kg last year). It is estimated that Mr. Thuy's orchard will harvest over 10 tons of fruit this year." Mr. Thuy added: "Besides harvesting the fruit, I also sold over 10,000 saplings by grafting. Each sapling sold for 50,000 VND. In total, my pomelo orchard will yield over half a billion VND this year!"
Quang Tien Ward currently has over 12 hectares of pomelo orchards, of which more than 7 hectares are already producing fruit. It is known that although the Quang Tien pink pomelos are producing fewer fruits this year, the selling price is higher than last year, ensuring stable income for the growers. However, a concern for Quang Tien pomelo growers is that many families are now investing in pomelo cultivation, meaning that in three years, the production of Quang Tien pink pomelos will increase significantly. If the market is limited, Quang Tien pink pomelos will be difficult to sell. Therefore, the local government needs to find solutions to attract markets for this type of pomelo, considered a specialty of Thai Hoa Town, right now.
