Two foreigners sentenced to life in prison for smuggling crystal meth into Vietnam
(Baonghean.vn) - In order to have drugs to sell in Vietnam, two young Lao men bought 1kg of crystal meth on credit for 2,500 USD. However, both were arrested when entering Vinh city.
On July 27, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a trial of two defendants Chong Song (born in 1991) and Cong Ky Giang (born in 1999), both residing in Kham Cot district, Boly Kham Xay province, Laos, for the crime of illegal drug trafficking.
Through social networks, a young man with a Facebook account named “Tran Duong” texted and made friends with Chong Song, asking to buy 1kg of crystal meth for 4,500 USD.
After that, Song discussed with Giang to buy 1kg of crystal meth on credit, for 2,500 USD, then brought it to Vinh City to sell to customers, promising to pay 1,000 USD.

After entering Vietnam through Cau Treo border gate (Ha Tinh), the Lao subjects contacted the buyer. On the evening of July 13, 2022, when Song and Giang were sitting in a taxi carrying 963 grams of drugs to a hotel in Vinh City to deliver the "goods", the police suddenly arrived and caught them red-handed.
At the trial, through an interpreter, the two defendants admitted to their crimes. Both confessed that because they had no money, they bought drugs on credit and then entered Vietnam to sell them for profit, but were arrested. The two defendants explained their difficult circumstances and asked the court to consider leniency under Vietnamese law.
Considering that in this case, the two defendants participated in drug trafficking in large quantities, the court sentenced Chong Song and Cong Ky Giang to life in prison for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
