(Baonghean.vn) - Every year, from around September to mid-November, Khanh Thanh commune (Yen Thanh district) usually releases water from the Vu Giang river to prevent flooding caused by storms. Taking advantage of these times, the people of Khanh Thanh commune flock to catch fish with nets.

Most of the people who fish with nets are men and boys, and many children are also eager to participate.

According to the villagers, catching fish with a net is not a profession but something they do in their spare time, both to provide extra food for their families and for enjoyment. That's why every household here owns a net as a tool for earning a living during the dry season. Because the river is wide, catching a lot of fish requires the participation of many people.

In Khanh Thanh commune, every household has at least one fishing basket.

"Every time the river dries up, everyone gets excited. The fish caught with nets are delicious and firm, and besides, going fishing with nets is a lot of fun," said Mr. Nguyen Van Long from Khanh Hoa hamlet, Khanh Thanh commune.

Fishing with a basket is a relatively simple method, but it has a strong sense of community, so going fishing with a basket is always a lot of fun.

Every time the river is flooded, the people of Khánh Thành feel like they're celebrating a festival. The atmosphere is lively, and everyone cheers whenever a large fish is caught. Many people, eager to join the fun but unable to go into the water, stand on the shore cheering and excitedly taking pictures. Whether they catch a lot or a little, few people take the fish to the market to sell; they usually give them away to relatives and neighbors or share them with those less fortunate who used their nets.
