My child has asthma, and many people have suggested using seahorses to treat it. Please tell me how to prepare them and the appropriate dosage.

MSc. Hoang Khanh Toan answered: According to traditional medicine, seahorses warm the body and open up the Ren meridian, and are used to treat chronic asthma.

The preparation method is as follows: Dried seahorses are soaked in alcohol, then roasted or thoroughly dried, and then ground into a powder for consumption or made into pills along with other medicinal herbs.

Use:Fish powder should be taken daily in doses of 4-12g, divided into 3 times with boiled water or diluted wine; fresh or dried fish can be soaked in wine alone or with other medicinal herbs such as Epimedium, Lycium barbarum, Cistanche deserticola, etc.

Seahorse-infused wine should be consumed twice daily, 20ml each time. Additionally, fresh seahorses can be stewed with chicken to make a tonic for blood and qi, and to warm kidney yang. For external use, powdered seahorses can be sprinkled on ulcers. Pregnant women and those with yin deficiency and excess heat should not use this remedy.
