Ms. Nguyen Thi Sau in Thanh Van commune, Thanh Chuong district, had a customer today so she went to the market. The first place she went to was the fish stall and was quite surprised by the long rows of fish of all kinds, mostly fresh freshwater fish. She bought a black carp weighing over 5 kg. In the joy of buying a satisfactory item at the beginning of the year, Ms. Sau shared: Today, when I went to the market to buy fresh fish, I was lucky to buy a big, live fish at a cheap price, only 90,000 VND/kg.

Ms. Sau is just one of many housewives who have chosen to buy freshwater fish at the beginning of the new year. Except for the two markets in town and Con market in Thanh Duong commune, the markets in Thanh Chuong district are no longer held continuously but are held in shifts.

Strolling through the markets, reporters noted the abundance of vegetables, meat and fish. Especially fish with all kinds from rare specialties such as scad, silver carp, black carp to common fish such as snakehead fish, bighead carp, silver carp, common carp...

In addition, there are fish sold by the bunch such as ditch, goby, clam, shrimp, etc. Ms. Le Thi Hoai, a fish trader, said: Although she knew that at the beginning of the year, eel and fish would be very popular, she was really surprised because consumer demand was so high that in one session she had to go home to get fish 3 times, and the "warehouses" supplying fish to sell next week had to be mobilized.

Although very popular, the prices of freshwater fish are still stable. Rare species such as silver carp cost 100,000 VND/kg, black carp if 4 kg or more is about 90,000 VND/kg, large carp is from 50,000 - 60,000 VND, and silver carp and birds are only 40,000 VND/kg. Fish under 1 kg are all under 40,000 VND/kg.

Explaining about the abundant supply and stable prices, Ms. Hoai and the fish sellers explained that the warm weather makes it easy to catch fish in ponds and lakes, and fish in rice fields must also be harvested for spring planting.

In markets in Vinh city, freshwater fish also attract customers, while beef and pork are rarely in demand.
