Previously, the Investigation Police Agency - Ba Dinh District Police transferred the case file, requesting the Ba Dinh District People's Procuracy to prosecute Chau Viet Cuong for the crime of "Involuntary manslaughter". Defendant Pham Duc The (born in 1981, from Yen Khanh, Ninh Binh) was proposed to be prosecuted for the crime of "Illegal possession of narcotics".
Considering that Chau Viet Cuong's behavior showed signs of the crime of "Murder", the People's Procuracy of Ba Dinh District returned the case file, requesting further investigation.
According to the case, in the early morning of March 5, 2018, after returning from a performance in Ha Nam province, Cuong picked up a friend to go out to eat, then both went to Pham Duc The's house in a collective housing area in Cong Vi ward (Ba Dinh district), and used "crystal" drugs together.
At around 3:30 a.m. the same day, Cuong called PA, then PA invited H. (born in 1989, from Chuong My, Hanoi) to go to The's house. The group continued to use drugs. At 7 a.m., everyone woke up and continued to use drugs for the third time.
During the drug use, Chau Viet Cuong and Ms. H. fell into a state of “high”. Cuong called H. his great-aunt, and Ms. H. called Cuong his son, then both clasped their hands and bowed to each other.
After that, Cuong thought that Ms. H. was possessed, so he ran to buy garlic, pressed it down, and stuffed it into the young girl's mouth. Pham Duc The and PA tried to stop him, but they couldn't, so they went outside. After that, Cuong grabbed his cell phone and ran out of the house, screaming, telling The that he had killed someone.
Forensic results showed that victim H. had dozens of garlic cloves stuffed into his mouth and died of respiratory failure and airway obstruction.
