Golden grouper is as expensive as gold!
(
(NAO) -A brief news report from Nghe An Online on March 14th stated: Fisherman Nguyen Van Thanh, residing in Xuan Lan hamlet, Nghi Xuan commune, Nghi Loc district (Nghe An province), caught a 58kg golden grouper on March 12th, 2008, which sold for 525 million VND, causing a stir in public opinion: why is the golden grouper so expensive?
However, this is not the first time fishermen in Nghi Loc have caught golden catfish. About 10 years ago (1998), Mr. Nguyen Vo Thanh caught a golden catfish weighing 78 kg, which he sold for 163 million VND. In 1999, Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuc caught one weighing 45 kg and sold it for 100 million VND. After some time, in 2005, a fisherman (whose name is unknown) also caught a golden catfish weighing 62 kg and sold it for 421 million VND.

The record for the highest price ever paid for a yellow grouper was set in 2007 by a fisherman in the southern waters of Guangdong Province, China. The fish, with its yellow scales, measured 1.75 meters long and weighed 49 kg, selling for $75,000.
Why are golden catfish so incredibly expensive? There are many differing opinions surrounding this issue. The Chinese consider golden catfish a symbol of wealth and good fortune, so wealthy individuals are willing to spend large sums of money to own one of these rare and precious fish, hoping for prosperity and smooth sailing in their business endeavors. According to experts, the swim bladder of the golden catfish is used to produce a special type of suture material in medical surgery, and because demand exceeds supply, golden catfish are as expensive as gold.
