(Baonghean) - In recent years, listeners have become familiar with the name and voice of a very young man from Nghe An, but he is making his mark in a music genre considered "old", which is revolutionary music. That young man is singer Vu Thang Loi, he wants to be the "hyphen" between two generations in the same mainstream music genre, selective of listeners but easy to have loyal fans.

Dare to fail to stand up

Coming out of the Sao Mai 2011 competition with second prize in chamber music, his path to the professional stage was not only smooth on the red carpet, there were times when he had to stop before his choice, he called it a stumble.

“Actually, the word stumble is a word I use myself, but it actually seems like a failure. That was the Sao Mai contest in 2009, I only made it to the Northern qualifying round. But you know, in a contest, besides luck, there are many other factors, like having someone to teach you, how to choose a song, how to perform… I learned all those things myself, so the result was that I went home empty-handed,” he confided.

Overcoming that “stumble” with a determined path he had set, Thang Loi continued to stand up and move forward. After the failure in 2009, Vu Thang Loi spent time learning more, buying and listening to chamber music CDs of famous singers, especially the music CDs of Opera Legend Luciano Pavarotti - a very emotional tenor. Just like that, just like that... by the time of the competition, he was more confident... and touched success. He believes that success or failure also comes from the way you approach it.

The first time being named in a big competition, through the halo of the stage lights, leaving behind the congratulations… right on the night he returned to his hometown (Vinh City) to be near his relatives in that moment of joy that was still overflowing.

Live with passion

With the success of Sao Mai, his path to his passion has been clearly defined. 2013 was a year with many memorable things for this young singer. Especially the mark in the program "Nguoi Ha Noi", followed by the appearances in the program "Favorite Songs". Next, he was also one of the main characters when participating in the program series "In the spotlight number 8" with the theme "Melody of the Fatherland" with Trong Tan, Uyen Linh, Nguyen Thao. In particular, through these programs, he had the opportunity to meet musician Hong Kien and it was Mr. Kien who made his first album with the musician's own arrangement produced by My Thanh Company.

In that musical path, he chose chamber music as his main genre, which was also his choice from the beginning when he decided to embark on the musical path. “It is like a passion, and once I have a passion, I just know how to live my life for that passion”. Thang Loi’s view on art is similar: “Art does not require much in terms of material things, but the important thing is that I can live with my passion”, he expressed.

Reaching his passion, living his passion to the fullest, but passion also has its price. While other young singers choose for themselves commercial music, quickly become famous, quickly gain other material benefits, Thang Loi is still like a romantic guy wandering on his lonely path, taking the love of listeners as an asset, taking the respect of professionals as strength. When asked if there is ever a time when the worry of making a living makes him change his point of view, without having to think long, he firmly affirmed: "Probably not, I will still stick to the music genre I am choosing. Sticking with this music genre, I have my own audience, a persistent audience."

Want to be a hyphen

+ Besides the pickiness of the music genre, do you feel overwhelmed when standing in front of senior singers in this genre?

- I always respect those who have gone before me, Thang Loi certainly still has to try hard to achieve the same success as his brothers and sisters have had or to be loved by the public like that. But Thang Loi always wants to be the next generation, to be a bridge between two generations attached to chamber music to serve the public.

+ So what about specific songs, are you afraid of being compared by the public when performing songs that previous people have successfully performed?

- It is true that songs in this genre have gone through history and have certain values in the hearts of the audience. It is only how the person performs it that matters. I think that each singer has their own personality when performing the work. Thang Loi was not alive at the time the song was released, but every time I stand in front of the audience, I always try to express it with all my personal emotions.

Thank you!
