Mr. Dang Quang Vinh (45 years old) in Yen Bai city, Yen Bai province, a fisherman who specializes in fishing at Thac Ba lake, said that on the morning of April 1, a group of fishermen from Yen Thanh district brought nets to Thac Ba lake (Yen Bai) to catch fish.
After about an hour of casting the net, the group of fishermen caught a "giant" black carp. "After a few minutes of calmly rolling up the net and catching it, the group of fishermen brought the giant black carp to shore. The fish weighed 61kg and was 1.5m long," Mr. Vinh informed.
According to Mr. Vinh, this is the biggest black carp ever caught by fishermen at Thac Ba Lake. After bringing the carp to shore, the group of fishermen sold the fish to a restaurant owner in Hanoi and did not disclose the price of the fish.
“There are many types of fish in Thac Ba Lake, however, there are very few large black carp weighing over half a quintal. Fishermen who go fishing must be very lucky to catch such a huge fish,” Mr. Vinh added.
The black carp is 1.5m long.
This is the second “giant” black carp caught in Thac Ba Lake since the beginning of 2017. Previously, in June 2017, a fisherman also caught a black carp weighing 45kg and measuring 1.5m in length in Thac Ba Lake.
Thac Ba Lake belongs to Luc Yen and Yen Binh districts (Yen Bai province), was formed in 1971, has a water surface area of 19,050 hectares, and is 80 km long.
This is one of the three largest artificial lakes in Vietnam, the lake is the source of water for Thac Ba Hydroelectric Plant (the first hydroelectric plant in Vietnam) in Yen Bai province. In this lake, fishermen sometimes catch grass carp weighing from 15-20kg.
