A creature measuring three to four meters in length was discovered on Redhead Beach last week. The discovery site is located approximately 150 km north of Sydney, Australia. The dead whale has attracted the attention of many scientists. This is an extremely rare occurrence because whales live in deep waters far offshore, according to Huffingtonpost.
"For a very long time, people didn't know much about them, and every time we found a dead creature on the beach, it was a treasure trove for science," Shona Lorgan, vice president of the Ornithological Rescue and Research Organisation (ORRCA) in Australia, told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
ORRCA said that volunteers are planning to remove the whale's head and send it to the Australian Museum in Sydney. The research team there will use X-ray scanners and DNA testing to directly study and confirm the whale's species.
The cause of the whale's death remains unclear.
