North Korea's 'mysterious' meetings in Moscow
North Korea has just confirmed that it held meetings with Russian officials in Moscow.
North Korean state media reported that Choe Son Hui, director of North American affairs at the North Korean Foreign Ministry, met with Ambassador Oleg Burmistrov on September 29. He is also said to have held talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov about the rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula.

"During the talks, they had in-depth exchanges of opinions on issues of mutual concern, including the situation on the Korean peninsula and bilateral relations," the North Korean news agency wrote.
Mr. Choe argued that, "to ease tensions and ensure peace and security on the peninsula and in Northeast Asia, the United States should abandon its hostile policy toward the DPRK."
"The Russian side demonstrated its understanding of the North Korean side's position, and expressed its readiness to make concerted efforts to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula," the article added.
The talks reportedly lasted five hours.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharov confirmed the officials had met but declined to give details.
The confirmation of the secret meeting between Russia and North Korea came after US President Donald Trump tweeted that he had warned Secretary of State Rex Tillerson not to try to negotiate with "Rocket Man" Kim Jong-un because doing so would be a "waste of time".
