The types of fruits most susceptible to pesticide contamination.
The U.S. Environmental Working Group has just released an updated list of fruits most susceptible to pesticide exposure, along with a list of the cleanest fruits.
To compile this list, the Environmental Working Group focused on 48 common fruits and vegetables and based it on an analysis of 32,000 samples tested by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Here is a list of 12 fruits that contain the most pesticides:

Other important findings
- 99% of apple samples tested contained at least one pesticide residue.
- When calculated by weight, potatoes contain the most pesticides among all vegetables and fruits.
- Only one grape sample tested positive for 15 different pesticides.
- Samples of celery, tomatoes, peas, and strawberries each tested positive for 13 different pesticides.
- Only 1% of avocado samples were found to contain pesticides.
- 89% of pineapples, 82% of kiwis, 80% of papayas, 88% of mangoes, and 61% of cantaloupes are free of pesticide residues.
