Generations of teachers and students of Luong The Vinh school were shocked by the news of the passing of teacher Van Nhu Cuong.

As soon as they heard the news of Mr. Van Nhu Cuong's death early in the morning of October 9, many former teachers and former students of the school were present at Luong The Vinh High School to visit and inquire about the situation..

This Monday morning was different from other Mondays. The students wore red shirts but did not perform the flag-raising ceremony. Teacher Doan Ngoc Toa, a first-year teacher of the school, wore an old helmet and his student Le Thuy Duong, a 10th-year student of the school, came to inquire about the situation.

Mr. Cuong has a lot of experience teaching students, I joined this school from the beginning so I understand him very well, currently Luong The Vinh school has reached the peak, maintaining the peak is partly thanks to him.

Suddenly shocked, I thought that Mr. Cuong could live a little longer. Mr. Cuong was still healthy, still clear-minded, he still wanted to contribute to his students and teachers. He still had many plans and I thought this was a loss.

I like Mr. Cuong because he has the qualities of a scholar of Nghe An, the thinking of a mathematician and the personality of an artist. He is clearly a real artist, a very good writer, and in addition, he also has the qualities of a businessman. I think these are the qualities that attract teachers, pedagogical colleagues, general colleagues and some general teachers. His behavior is full of pedagogical qualities.

I have many memories with Mr. Cuong, first is reading poetry with Mr. Cuong on television several decades ago on November 20th; second is the lessons when he gave me a lot of advice on Literature, the subject I teach; third is when we hooked hands to quit smoking, I was able to quit but he was not. He often gave parallel sentences, I was the one who responded, some of the parallel sentences were successful and some were not. To me, he was a very knowledgeable person and behaved very well.

When I entered the teacher training college, when I entered Luong The Vinh school, my impression was the first thing he said, no matter who he was talking to, the new teacher always called himself teacher, no "anh anh", "em em", "cau cau", "toi toi". That means the pedagogical atmosphere that Mr. Cuong built at this school was very good. We always remember one of Mr. Cuong's words "all of our teachers are people's teachers because they are raised by the people".

Returning after hearing the news of Mr. Cuong's death, Ms. Le Thuy Duong's eyes were red as she recalled memories of the exemplary teacher who always knew how to listen and share: "I was very sad when I heard the news this morning. I hope that on this occasion, former students of LTV school can return to the school and to their teacher after many years away from school.

I hope that generations of LTV students and teachers will maintain the tradition, further enhance the LTV brand to be worthy of both Mr. Cuong and the teachers who taught us such as Mr. Toa, a teacher I love very much. Although he was tired, he still came when he heard the news. Many friends also wanted to come, but because of work, I represented and informed them.

The first year I studied at Luong The Vinh was in 10th grade, when I participated in the Youth Union congress at that time in Thanh Xuan district, as a new student I spoke very eloquently "Why doesn't Luong The Vinh school have a biography? It should have been Luong The Vinh school's biography, but instead I said Van Nhu Cuong school's biography. The whole school and the teacher laughed, sympathetically and happily, and a week later the school distributed Luong The Vinh's biography to all students."

In the second year of the Youth Union Congress, I had a dream that the school would have a hall and not have to rent one anymore. The teacher said that he had listened to Thuy Duong, and half a year later, in Cau Giay area, formerly known as Luong The Vinh school, he had a beautiful school and a very nice hall. Thanks to that, I was able to organize Youth Union Congresses and collective activities.

Also at the congress that year, standing in the school yard, the teacher was considering writing a sign that said "First learn manners, then learn knowledge" or "Where there's a will, there's a way", we students said briefly, teacher, "Where there's a will, there's a way" and the teacher did exactly what we students shared. Personally, I remember the 3 times my personal suggestions were accepted by the teacher".

Mr. Duong Danh Tan (75 years old), from the same hometown as Teacher Van Nhu Cuong (Quynh Loi, Nghe An), a student of Professor Cuong's father, shared that as soon as he received the news of Professor Cuong's death, he and some friends went to Luong The Vinh school to share this sadness.

According to Mr. Tan, Mr. Cuong's father was also an extremely strict teacher with his students. He trained many generations of successful students and was a teacher respected by his students.

He also shared: “Mr. Van Nhu Cuong is a wonderful person in the way he lives. Even though he is old, every time he returns to his hometown, he still carries his mother to the temple, so there is a poem “Carrying Mother to the Temple” when he is over 70 years old.

Professor Cuong is a true teacher, respected by many generations of students. His family is a family of educators. Professor Cuong is a prestigious and very good teacher. Professor Cuong is also someone who always listens and shares.

Although I have not had much contact with the teacher, only heard him speak at the opening ceremony and school activities, Vu Duc Quang, a student of class 11A11, Luong The Vinh High School, shared:

“This morning when I received the news of Mr. Cuong’s death from my friends, I couldn’t believe it was true. I haven’t had much contact with him, only about 2-3 times a school year because he has been sick a lot in recent years. But I will always remember the memories of my respected teacher Van Nhu Cuong from the first day I stepped foot in grade 6 at school. He was very close, paid attention to new students, and often encouraged us in our studies.

The most profound impression, at the beginning of the 6th grade, when we first met the teacher with a very long white beard, we whispered to each other to guess how old he was. One of us said he was 72, another said he was 78. When we asked him, he said: “My age is the average of those two numbers. I am 75 years old. Then he said that your age is only 1/7 of my age, so you still have many opportunities to strive and learn. He really hopes that you will try to become good teachers, good students, and bring honor to Luong The Vinh school.

The teacher explained why he used a triangle as the school's logo. He said the triangle is the strongest shape in mathematics. He wanted all of us to be like that triangle, always united with each other, always pushing each other to strive to excel in our studies.

Nguyen Minh Quan, a student of class 11A1 at Luong The Vinh High School, was moved: “My most memorable memory of the teacher is probably when we were in military service, on the evening of the performance, the teacher came and I got to take a photo with him. The image I remember most about the teacher is probably his beard because he looked like a fairy.

I, like many other students in the school, feel very sad about his passing, and from now on the school has lost a talented teacher."

Nguyen Trong Hung, a student of class 11A1 at Luong The Vinh High School, still remembers his teacher's saying: "Where there's a will, there's a way." That saying motivated Hung to study at this school, because Hung wanted to study in a school that has been around for a long time and wanted a better future.

As for Tran Duc Hieu, a student of class 11A1 at Luong The Vinh High School, the speech "One minute to cure laziness" at the opening ceremony of the new school year became an interesting lesson that Hieu will always remember. In the speech, the teacher said that "Without effort, it is very difficult to achieve success." This saying is the motivation that urges Hieu to always try to study better.

The passing of Professor Van Nhu Cuong has left a great loss in the hearts of generations of teachers and students of Luong The Vinh High School. According to information from his family, Associate Professor Van Nhu Cuong passed away at 0:27 on October 9, 2017 (August 20 of the lunar calendar) at his home.

The funeral will be held from 10:30 to 12:30 on October 12, 2017 (ie August 23 of the lunar calendar) at the Ministry of National Defense Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. The memorial service will be held at 12:30 on the same day, and the burial will be at the Universal Crematorium, Van Dien Cemetery.
