External forces have plunged Syria into crisis.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister accused the West and Arab countries of being the reason for the failure of the peace plan for Syria.
Speaking during a one-day visit to Moscow, Russia, on August 3, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian blamed the West and Arab countries for “the failure of special envoy Annan’s peace plan,” a day after Annan announced his resignation from his current position at the end of this month.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abdollahian emphasized: “We regret that some UN Security Council member states and other countries have caused Annan’s peace plan to fail. We also regret that some countries have sought to use unilateral mechanisms to resolve the Syrian issue, forcing Annan to resign.”
During this press conference, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abdollahian also reaffirmed that Iran's nuclear program is for peaceful purposes and emphasized that Israel is not capable of launching an attack on Iran with the aim of hindering Tehran's nuclear program.
Earlier, Iran's semi-official Mehr News Agency quoted a Foreign Ministry spokesperson as saying that external interference was the reason for the failure of the peace plan for Syria.
The spokesperson also emphasized that all countries supporting stability and security in the Middle East need to make a joint effort to stabilize the situation in Syria, paving the way for a resolution through dialogue between the Syrian government and the opposition.
Meanwhile, Iran's Press TV channel quoted Iranian lawmaker Alireza Zakani as saying that external pressure cannot bring down the Syrian government and that any change in the country can only be achieved through a vote by the Syrian people.
MP Zakani also warned that armed elements supported by the West and some regional countries are massacring Syrian people for their own benefit.
