Life skills education so that children can adapt to the surrounding environment quickly, how to behave, and train emotional intelligence for children. But how to teach life skills to children effectively when the hustle and bustle and stress of work make parents have very little time for their children.
Below are some effective ways to train children in life skills even when parents are busy.
Let children participate in housework
Instead of teaching your child too much theory and doing dry exercises, let your child participate in cleaning the house with you, starting with small tasks that are suitable for your child's abilities.
If the child is only 2 years old, parents can assign him/her to throw away his/her own trash, brush his/her own teeth, and wash his/her own face. If the child is 4-5 years old, let him/her wash the dishes, pick vegetables, or carry groceries when going to the market with his/her mother. For older children, parents can arrange for him/her to do tasks that are within his/her capacity.
By doing daily chores together, children will learn lessons that are most relevant to their lives and will easily become independent.
Let children participate in extracurricular activities
Instead of sending your children to extra classes to control them, try letting them participate in outdoor activities with friends at parks, streets, and fairs on weekends. Parents can also be the ones to organize picnics for children to play together. Letting children participate in art competitions is an effective way to practice life skills.
Through that, children learn how to communicate, behave and face difficult problems to survive, to win or learn how to harmonize relationships with those around them.
Always communicate with children
Even though you are busy with work, parents should not forget to always communicate with their children. Communicate through words, eyes, body language or through writing letters. Because family communication is always very important in stimulating children's ability to communicate and behave.
Not only is it the basis for each individual to understand the other members, but through daily communication, children also develop listening skills, sharing skills and sharp language thinking. Regular communication with children is one of the simplest and easiest ways to teach children life skills.
Respect personal space
