Eggs that are past the date printed on the carton do not mean they are unusable.

Many people think that you should not eat chicken or duck eggs after the expiration date printed on the carton you buy at the market. In fact, you can still use eggs for a few more days, even a week, as long as you know how to distinguish between good and bad eggs, and the date on the package is sometimes only relative.

Put the egg in water

- If the egg sinks and lies horizontally, it is still very fresh and you can use it at will.

- If the egg sinks and stands vertically, you need to dispose of it as soon as possible, because it is close to its expiration date.

- If the egg floats on the surface of the water, you should throw it away because this is an old egg, the yolk and white have shrunk, air has penetrated inside making them float easily.

Under the light

Because the eggshell is quite thin, when you look under a flashlight or a desk lamp, you can easily see the yolk and egg white, thereby distinguishing whether the egg is spoiled or not. According to the picture above, the freshest egg is picture a, pictures b and c are both old eggs, but if you see a clear, dark yolk (like picture b), you should consider using it. Picture d, the egg is rotten, it definitely smells bad because the yolk and egg white have mixed together.

Crack the egg onto a plate.

When you crack an egg, you will immediately know which one is no longer usable due to the strong odor. In addition, if the yolk is round and raised, the egg is still very fresh, on the contrary, if the yolk is flat, it means that it is not very fresh but can still be eaten. If you are not sure, use a toothpick to poke the yolk, if the toothpick stands straight, the egg is fresh, or use chopsticks to pick up the yolk, if the yolk does not break, the egg is fresh, otherwise the egg has been stored for a long time.

For fresh eggs, you can use them as usual, without paying attention to the date on the packaging. As for slightly old eggs, if you are concerned, you can use them as chicken eggs or salted duck eggs and use them gradually. In addition, many Vietnamese people are addicted to the unpleasant smell of the famous rotten duck eggs, boiled from rotten duck eggs - a food that nutritionists advise against because it is not good for health.
