How to safely bathe your baby in cold weather.

In the cold winter weather, children are very susceptible to respiratory illnesses. How to bathe children safely in winter is a concern for many mothers, especially first-time mothers.

In winter, it's not necessary to bathe your child every day, but daily hygiene is still important. Simply wipe their body with warm water, paying special attention to cleaning and drying the area from below the navel to the feet. You can bathe your child twice a week.

When bathing a child, it's essential to use warm water, in a draft-free room, and ideally with a fan for warmth. For children over one year old, buy a large basin with high sides so that when the child sits in it, the water covers most of their body. Warm water will help prevent them from getting cold.

Parents should shower first, then the child, because the warm steam from the parents' shower will linger in the room, warming the bathroom air. Alternatively, warm the bathroom by spraying hot water from the showerhead, or by opening the lid of a pot to let the water dissipate heat before mixing. If the weather is too cold, you can also add a little eucalyptus oil to the water to keep the child warmer.

An important principle when bathing a baby in winter is to wash from bottom to top. Wash the baby's feet first, then gradually work your way up. Wash the baby's hair quickly last to prevent them from getting cold while wet. Place a large washcloth on the baby's chest and frequently pour warm water over them. Or, even better, have two people bathe the baby: one to scrub and the other to continuously pour water over them.

When carrying the baby out, one person should have a large towel ready to wrap around the baby to absorb the water. For extra caution, a dry towel can be used to replace the wet one, ensuring that the wet towel doesn't chill the baby (especially newborns).

If you're alone, keep a towel by the bathtub so you can wrap your baby in it immediately after bathing. Hold your baby and use the towel to dry them off.

When wiping, it's crucial to dry and keep the soles of the feet warm immediately. For infants, one person should put on the shirt and socks simultaneously, with pants put on last.

Another thing to note is that before bathing your child, you should have all the necessary clothes, socks, and gloves ready on the bed. It's best to warm the clothes beforehand so that the child can put them on immediately after bathing without getting cold.

In winter, the frequency of bathing should be reduced to avoid irritating the baby's skin. Limit bath time to 5-10 minutes to ensure the water remains warm enough.
