(Baonghean.vn) - The car's clutch pedal is the part that connects the engine gearbox and the wheels. After a period of use, the car's clutch pedal becomes heavier or lighter than usual, requiring adjustment to rebalance the clutch pedal travel... With simple clutch pedal errors, you can adjust it yourself without having to take the car to a repair center.

1. Adjust the total and free travel of the clutch pedal

The free travel of the clutch pedal is the distance from the pedal to the position where the bearing eliminates all free clearance (when it starts to contact the opening lever head), the driver will feel heavy when pressing the clutch pedal. Then, the next travel to the floor of the car is called the working travel (to completely disengage the clutch). The sum of the two travels is the total travel.

First, measure the pedal height by using a ruler perpendicular to the car floor. If the height is correct according to the regulations of each car manufacturer, it is okay. If it is not correct, it must be adjusted by changing the length of the support bolt. Then, ask another person to press the accelerator pedal to the floor to measure the total travel distance.

If the total travel of the car's clutch pedal is lower or higher than normal, the free travel length of the clutch pedal must be rebalanced...

2. Adjust the height of the opening levers

The check will use a caliper to measure the opening lever head to the working surface of the pressure plate and must be within the allowable range as specified by the manufacturer. If the distance between the opening levers is not equal, it must be adjusted, the difference must not exceed 0.3mm.

The opening lever is mounted on a bolt, the bolt height can be changed to change the height of the opening lever. Or if the lever head has adjustable bolts, just loosen the nut to adjust the bolt in or out, depending on the direction of adjustment.

If it is not in accordance with the standards specified by the car manufacturer, it is necessary to change the length of the pull rod with the adjusting screw. For hydraulic structures, it is necessary to adjust by loosening the locking screw to change the length of the push rod connecting from the clutch pedal to the master cylinder piston. For hydraulic brake types, it is necessary to check the pedal travel from when the clutch is pressed until the push rod begins to act on the cylinder piston. And the allowable travel is 1 - 5mm.

Exhaust

After performing the car clutch adjustment procedure, it is necessary to bleed air from the hydraulic system to ensure that it does not affect the clutch's ability to operate.

First, attach the plastic tube to the bleeder pipe, the other end to the brake fluid container. Then, press the clutch pedal and keep it pressed, loosen the bleeder screw until you see the brake fluid flowing out, then tighten the bleeder screw again.
