Taking advantage of the sunny weather, in recent days, shrimp farmers in Quynh Luu district have actively treated ponds, dried ponds, and reinforced pond banks to prepare for the third shrimp crop of the year.
Although the district does not encourage people to raise shrimp in the third crop because of the risk of disease and high risks due to the weather, after many years of trying to raise shrimp, the third crop is considered "real value for raising and eating", so people still boldly invest.
According to the plan, the whole district will stock about 320ha/600ha of shrimp farming area. Localities with the shrimp farming movement for the third crop are concentrated in Quynh Thanh, Quynh Bang, Quynh Minh, Quynh Luong, An Hoa, Quynh Nghia, Trinh Mon Farm. The farming method is mainly extensive farming to reduce feed costs, or intercropping with fish species such as mullet...

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, a large shrimp farmer in Quynh Luong commune, my family has 7 hectares of shrimp farming area with a total of 10 ponds. After 2 main farming crops, in the 3rd crop, my family only renovated 3 farming ponds and 1 settling pond. Currently, 2 ponds have been stocked. We do not dare to raise a lot of shrimp in the 3rd crop, we invest a lot to easily control diseases, water sources as well as infrastructure systems.
"If we don't raise this crop, the pond will be neglected for 4 months after starting to release shrimp for the first crop. The investment cost and pond renovation and reinforcement will double or triple and take more time," said Mr. Duc.
