Cairo - the world's most dangerous city for women

The risk of sexual violence against women in Cairo (Egypt) is very high, according to international experts.

This is the first survey result by international experts on the risks and opportunities for women living in megacities (ie cities with over 10 million people).

The results are based on a survey in 19 megacities on the level of protection women receive from sexual violence and backward customs.and access to health, finance, education. Accordingly, the most dangerous level for women belongs to Cairo, followed by Karachi (Pakistan), Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo) and the capital New Delhi (India), London (UK) is at the top in terms of friendliness to women, followed by Tokyo (Japan), Paris (France).

Women’s rights activists in Cairo say centuries-old customs (many of which are discriminatory) have made Cairo a difficult city for women. Egyptian women face difficulties in many aspects of life, from small things like walking on the street to the risk of harassment.

Tokyo (Japan) is the safest city in terms of sexual violence and harassment, although some feminists say sexual violence remains a hidden problem. London is the best city for women thanks to its free national health service as well as economic opportunities./.
