Ban on sending workers to Japan to work in radioactive areas

The Department of Overseas Labor Management (Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs) has just sent an official dispatch to companies sending trainees to Japan, strictly prohibiting sending workers to work in radioactive areas.

Specifically, the Overseas Labor Management Department requires labor dispatching companies to urgently contact and review with receiving unions to find out information about the incident. In case any trainees are sent to work in prohibited areas, the companies must report and coordinate with the Vietnam Labor Management Board in Japan to receive support to protect the trainees' legitimate rights and interests; promptly send officials to Japan to resolve the incident.

At the same time, the Department of Overseas Labor Management also requested enterprises to submit review reports to the Department before March 15, 2018. In addition, the Department of Overseas Labor Management also requested the Vietnam Labor Management Board in Japan to urgently coordinate with the Ministry of Justice, the Otit Organization for Foreign Technical Intern Training and work with the Japan Labor Federation, which is supporting trainees to file complaints about the incident, to clarify the information; request the Vietnam Labor Management Board in Japan to have a plan to support enterprises in resolving the incident to protect the rights and legitimate interests of trainees. At the same time, regularly update information and report to the Department of Overseas Labor Management.

Previously, the Overseas Labor Management Department received information that a Vietnamese trainee had complained to Japanese authorities about being sent to work in a radioactive area in Fukushima Prefecture. This is an area that has been contaminated with high levels of radiation after the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster in 2011 and is currently under quarantine.
