Jetstar Pacific representative said the above regulation was issued by the airline right after the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO and the Qantas Group's dangerous goods expert group recommended it.
Accordingly, while on board the plane, all passengers and crew are not allowed to use spare batteries and aircraft power outlets to charge other electronic devices.
This rule applies to Qantas Airways (Australia) and Jetstar Group airlines, including Jetstar Pacific. However, passengers are still allowed to carry spare batteries during travel.
Jetstar Pacific said it has deployed ground and flight crew departments to notify passengers before each flight.
Jetstar Pacific representative confirmed that power banks are convenient devices used by many people. However, they can lead to unpredictable fire and explosion risks. The ban on their use is to ensure maximum safety for passengers and flights.
Currently, Vietnamese airlines require passengers not to put lithium ion batteries - the type of battery used for laptops, backup chargers for mobile phones, and tablets - in checked baggage but to put them in carry-on baggage according to ICAO recommendations.
However, Jetstar Pacific is the first airline to announce a ban on the use of power banks on planes.
