After many days of heavy rain, National Highway 46C section through Ru Ha in Kim Bang commune, Nghe An province suffered serious landslides, forcing authorities to close the road for the past 2 weeks, affecting traffic and people's lives.

The landslide is spreading more and more.

After storm No. 10 and heavy rain in early November 2025, many landslides appeared in Kim Bang commune, the most serious of which was on National Highway 46C, through Ru Ha, in village 1.

According to the reporter's records, the landslide is located at Km79+150 on the route, encroaching deeply into the roadway with a length of about 20m, nearly 3m high and eating deep into the heart of the road, threatening the entire foundation structure. About 100m away, at Km79+250, the road surface continues to have cracks about 30m long, about 1.5m wide, with the potential risk of collapse if vehicles continue to circulate.

Weak ground, complex geology and heavy rain for many days are considered the main reasons for the rapid landslide and increased danger level.

Locals said the road closures were necessary to avoid accidents, but commuters' lives were disrupted significantly.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tuan, residing in village 1, Kim Bang commune, shared: The landslide is getting deeper and deeper, very dangerous, especially at night or when it rains, limited visibility can cause pedestrians to fall into the subsidence point, or even into the river if not detected in time. Many people hope that the authorities will soon repair the road so that traffic can return to normal, especially when people in the area still have to go back and forth every day to serve production and daily life.

Faced with the emergency, the People's Committee of Kim Bang commune coordinated with the Road Management Department to put up road closure signs, assign forces to be on duty and temporarily divert traffic.

Mr. Dang Van Tuan - Vice Chairman of Kim Bang Commune People's Committee said: The road had cracks before, but in just a few days of heavy rain, it had sunk heavily and eaten deep into the road's centerline, making it urgent to ensure safety. The commune immediately reported to Thanh Chuong Road Management Department and Nghe An Department of Construction. Specialized units also went directly to inspect and assess the current situation and together with the commune forces set up barriers and closed the road to prevent danger to the people.

During the road closure, the commune has proposed traffic diversion plans. Accordingly, motorbikes and bicycles are still allowed to pass through, but must go slowly, observe carefully, and follow the instructions of the on-duty force.

For small cars, vehicles are directed to go around Village 1 - which is a small, narrow road and not designed for large vehicles. The commune has promoted and mobilized the people of Village 1 to create conditions for vehicles to temporarily pass while waiting for repairs.

For trucks and other heavy vehicles, it is necessary to take a longer detour, through the old Thanh Tung commune (now part of Bich Hao commune), before returning to National Highway 46C. The detour is about 6km long, is degraded and very inconvenient, but this is the only option to avoid the risk of widespread subsidence when heavy loads pass through.

Ms. Tran Thi Hanh, a resident of Village 2, said that bypassing small routes doubled travel time, especially in the morning when taking her children to school. The roads were also degraded and muddy, making travel very difficult. She said that people understood the need to close the road, but hoped that the authorities would speed up the repair process so that life could return to normal soon.

Strive to overcome in November 2025

Faced with the increasingly widespread landslide, the People's Committee of Kim Bang Commune has issued many documents to departments and branches requesting urgent support. Most recently, in Document No. 739/CV-UBND dated November 14, 2025, the commune clearly stated that the serious landslide has affected traffic, people's psychology and damaged many commune roads due to the sudden increase in the number of vehicles using the bypass.

Discussing this issue, Mr. Hoang Quoc Truong - Director of the Road Maintenance Management Board, Nghe An Department of Construction said: As soon as the locality reported, the unit set up a working group to go directly to the scene to inspect and assess the situation. However, due to prolonged heavy rain, the repair work was interrupted.

According to Mr. Truong, the solution being considered is to build a stone gabion embankment to protect the foot of the road, reinforce the foundation, then rebuild the structure and renew the road surface. Because the underlying soil is weak, with many places being sandy, the foundation treatment must be extremely careful to avoid re-landslides. If the weather is favorable, the construction unit will start this week and strive to complete the entire project by November 2025 so that people can travel normally again.

While waiting for a long-term solution from professional agencies, local authorities continue to advise people to comply with traffic signs and instructions, and avoid being subjective when passing through potentially dangerous areas.
