(Baonghean.vn) - Since the mid-20th century, Vinh oranges have been famous throughout Northern Vietnam, and moreover, they have traveled tens of thousands of miles to reach distant Eastern European countries.

At that time, the main source of oranges came from state-owned farms in the districts of Nghia Dan, Quy Hop, Con Cuong, Bai Phu (Anh Son), Tan Ky, etc.

Not to mention the famously ripe and juicy Xa Doai oranges, which can only be bought directly from the trees and orchards, not widely available in the market. Vinh oranges have also been featured in poetry and songs. The poet Pham Tien Duat once wrote the poem "Orange Season" (Xa Doai oranges are juicy/Golden drops like honey/Cutting the oranges outside the front door/The fragrance wafts into the house), which is included in Vietnamese language textbooks.

The reputation of Vinh oranges was formed naturally and simply during the subsidy era, following a very simple logic: oranges were brought from farms to Vinh town, gathered, and then transported by train from Vinh station to various places for distribution and consumption. There was no intellectual property registration, no labels, and no marketing or advertising activities like there are now.

Yet, whenever the words "Cam Vinh" are mentioned, everyone knows, praises, and wants to taste it. To produce a delicious orange that has become a specialty, many factors are involved, the most important of which are the soil, climate, and variety…

Today, with the advancement of science, technology, and engineering in Nghe An, many new varieties have been created, preserving the outstanding characteristics of traditional varieties while also incorporating the advantages of new genetic resources from around the world.

This has created a rich and diverse variety of Vinh oranges, while also improving fruit quality, extending the harvesting period, and increasing competitiveness, solidifying Vinh oranges' position in the market. Consumers can easily enjoy various types of Vinh oranges, including Van Du, Xa Doai, Xa Doai yellow-fleshed, V1 (Lai Valenxia 1.0), V2 (Valenxia 2.0), etc., which have been "Vinhized".

On the morning of December 28th, at the Provincial Cultural and Information Center, the Provincial People's Committee inaugurated the "Vinh Orange Fair - Nghe An 2017". 46 booths from organizations and individuals producing and trading oranges in the province participated in the "Vinh Orange Fair - Nghe An 2017". This is the first time Nghe An province has organized the Vinh Orange Fair.

This year's Vinh Orange Fair, along with previously implemented solutions such as announcing and affixing geographical indication and origin labels for Vinh oranges, establishing the Vinh Orange Association, and forming production and business cooperatives, will certainly further promote the Vinh orange brand in the market. These solutions will, on the one hand, have a positive impact on the production, business, and development of Vinh oranges, and on the other hand, best protect consumer rights.

Hopefully, with the determination of producers and businesses, and the support of state management agencies such as the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Industry and Trade, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the attention of local authorities at all levels, Vinh oranges will occupy the number one position in the domestic market and expand strongly into international markets such as Japan, Eastern Europe, the United States, and the Middle East.
