Cambodia increases the scale of the 3rd "Golden Dragon" exercise with the largest sponsoring country
Cambodia and China pledged to continue holding the "Golden Dragon" exercise in 2019 on a larger scale to strengthen cooperation in the military field.
This was affirmed by General Eth Sarath, Deputy Commander-in-Chief and Chief of Staff of the Royal Cambodian Army (RCAF) during a meeting with Mr. Sheng Yunlai, Deputy Chief of Staff of Group 74, Chinese People's Liberation Army, who is visiting and working in Cambodia.
At the meeting, Mr. Sheng Yunlai affirmed that the "Golden Dragon" exercise in 2016 and 2018 was a great success. Mr. Sheng Yunlai and General Eth Sarath signed an agreement on the "Golden Dragon" exercise in 2019 to strengthen cooperation in the military field.

The Cambodian army held the second "Golden Dragon" exercise in March 2018, focusing on counter-terrorism, rescue skills and live-fire training. 280 Cambodian soldiers and 190 Chinese soldiers participated in the exercise. Many modern weapons were mobilized to participate in the exercise such as: armored vehicles, Z10 helicopters, missiles...
China is currently the largest donor to Cambodia. During Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe’s visit to Cambodia in June, China announced a $100 million grant to Phnom Penh.
Since 2016, Cambodia has indefinitely suspended joint military exercises with the US, but has twice held joint exercises with China.
