On July 30, Cambodia appointed Deputy Commander of the Military Police, General Pi Sen, to replace Lieutenant General Da Kim Ay as Commander of the Military Police in Phnom Penh.

This decision was made just a few days after the 5th National Assembly elections held on July 28th.

Some sources suggest that General Da Kim Ay is believed to be responsible for the clash between voters supporting the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) and military police on the outskirts of Phnom Penh during the election, which resulted in two military police vehicles being overturned and set on fire.

The military police did not react to these unruly voters. However, on the evening of July 28th, many roads leading to several locations in the capital, including Prime Minister Hun Sen's private residence, were blocked.

One day after the conclusion of Cambodia's 5th National Assembly elections, the International Congress of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and the Association of Asian-Pacific Democratic Parties (CAPDI) declared that the 5th National Assembly elections in Cambodia, held on July 28th, were free, fair, accurate, transparent, and non-violent.

At a press conference held in Phnom Penh on the morning of July 29, CAPDI Chairman Jose Devenecia emphasized that the summary of election monitoring activities showed that the 5th Cambodian National Assembly election was successful, the election results reflected the will of the voters, and demonstrated that democracy in Cambodia has been strengthened.
