This year's Lunar New Year, pork prices have increased sharply compared to normal days, so people often slaughter pigs together. This is a matter of concern for professional agencies, as African swine fever is still scattered in some localities. People cannot help but wonder if with the high demand for pork, which means the number of pigs to be slaughtered has increased dramatically, African swine fever has the opportunity to break out.
Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh - Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine advised: Nghe An currently has about 900,000 pigs, enough to meet the food needs of people for Tet. However, pork prices are forecast to remain high, so people will slaughter pigs to share.
To ensure disease safety for the pig herd, people need to pay attention to some issues when participating in pig slaughter and using pork. For localities that have declared the end of the epidemic, pig slaughter is allowed, but pigs from other regions should not be purchased. If so, the origin must be clearly identified as disease-free pigs. During the pig slaughter process, it is necessary to stay away from the breeding area; after finishing, the tools: knives, cutting boards... must be cleaned; waste must also be treated to ensure environmental hygiene and sprayed with disinfectant chemicals.

For communes where the epidemic has not yet ended, people should not slaughter pigs, but instead use other fresh foods, or use frozen pork.
With the African swine fever epidemic not yet over, people should not be subjective, because during Tet, a large number of pigs are slaughtered, especially with a large number of people and vehicles traveling on the roads, giving the disease the opportunity to break out again.
According to information from the Nghe An Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, in the recent past, the number of communes that have passed 30 days of the epidemic has decreased rapidly, from 367 communes with the epidemic, by January 11, there were only 25 communes that had not passed 30 days of the epidemic. Currently, 6 districts have been free of African swine fever, namely Quy Chau, Con Cuong, Nam Dan, Tuong Duong, Nghia Dan and Thai Hoa town.
