Proper waste collection points need to be arranged.

(Baonghean) - According to residents' feedback, several garbage collection points in Vinh City, such as the area around Le Hong Phong Street (in front of Nghe An Publishing House), Dinh Cong Trang Street (beside the fence of Le Mao Secondary School), Dao Tan Street (northwest of the right gate near Doi Cung Market), Nguyen Trai Street (near the Nghi Phu afternoon market gate)... not only cause environmental pollution but also affect urban aesthetics.

Because the collected waste is stored in unsorted bins, it smells less when transported promptly in cool weather. However, on hot days, and especially on rainy days, water leaks from the bins, causing odors that significantly affect the environment and landscape of the area where the waste is collected. Many bins, even after being loaded onto trucks, still contain water and residue, emitting unpleasant smells... Not to mention that when urban sanitation workers haven't had time to transport the waste, scavengers rummage through everything.

In 2010, after establishing an inspection team, the Vinh City People's Committee reviewed, adjusted, and standardized 163 garbage collection points, including 75 points where garbage collection vehicles were relocated and not stationed during the day, and 123 points where garbage had to be collected and transported daily.

There are 42 locations where waste must be collected and transported according to regulations (transported twice a month) (in the communes of Nghi Lien, Nghi Kim, Nghi An, Nghi Duc, Hung Hoa, and Hung Chinh).

However, the current difficulty is that many temporary garbage collection points, especially in the central wards of the city, are not appropriately located (near schools, offices, residential areas, etc.), and some people lack awareness and dump garbage indiscriminately on the roads and sidewalks, causing unsightly conditions and polluting the urban environment.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, a specialist in the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Vinh City, said: "There have been many suggestions from people, agencies, and units regarding garbage collection points, but we can only record and compile them to advise the City People's Committee on gradual adjustments. We cannot resolve the issue immediately because it involves many factors such as land availability, convenient access for garbage collection vehicles, and the amount of garbage collected each day."

To develop Vinh into a civilized and modern city, environmental criteria are paramount. Therefore, considering and finding suitable locations for waste collection, ensuring environmental hygiene and urban aesthetics, is an urgent matter that needs to be addressed.
