Need to arrange reasonable garbage collection points

(Baonghean) - According to people's feedback, some garbage collection points in Vinh City such as: Le Hong Phong Street (in front of Nghe An Publishing House), Dinh Cong Trang Street (Le Mao Secondary School fence), Dao Tan Street (Northwest of the right gate near Doi Cung Market), Nguyen Trai Street (Nghi Phu afternoon market gate)... not only cause environmental pollution but also affect the urban beauty.

Because the collected garbage is stored in unsorted trucks, when the weather is cool and transported promptly, it does not smell much. On hot days, especially on rainy days, water flows out of the trash cans, emitting odors that significantly affect the environment and landscape at the garbage collection point. Many trash cans, after being loaded into cars, still have water, residue, and an unpleasant smell... Not to mention that when the urban environmental staff have not yet transported the garbage, the scrap metal search team is digging everywhere.

In 2010, after establishing an inspection team, Vinh City People's Committee reviewed, adjusted, and agreed on 163 garbage collection points, of which 75 were moving points, and garbage collection points were not gathered during the day, while 123 points had to collect and transport garbage during the day.

The points that must collect and transport garbage according to regulations (transport twice a month) are 42 points (in Nghi Lien, Nghi Kim, Nghi An, Nghi Duc, Hung Hoa, Hung Chinh communes).

But the current difficulty is that many temporary garbage collection points, especially in central wards of the city, are not arranged appropriately (near schools, offices, houses...), some people lack awareness and dump garbage on the streets and sidewalks, causing loss of aesthetics and polluting the urban environment.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan - Specialist of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Vinh City said: There are many recommendations from people, agencies and units reflecting on garbage collection points, but we can only record and summarize on that basis to advise the City People's Committee to gradually adjust, but cannot solve immediately because it is related to many issues such as land fund, convenience of access for garbage collection vehicles, amount of garbage collected each day"...

To build Vinh into a civilized and modern city, environmental criteria are given top priority. Therefore, considering and finding a suitable garbage collection location, ensuring environmental sanitation and urban aesthetics is an urgent matter that needs to be focused on.
