Close-up of the Bach Dang stake field from the Tran Dynasty that has just been discovered
(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, during a working trip to Hai Phong City, a delegation from Nghe An Newspaper visited the Cao Quy stake field in Lien Khe Commune, Thuy Nguyen District. This is a stake field that has just been discovered and initial research shows that the stakes date back to the late 13th century, most likely related to the battle against the Yuan army in 1288 by the Tran Dynasty army and people.

The Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Hai Phong Museum, has just excavated 27 stakes in the Cao Quy field, Lien Khe commune, Thuy Nguyen district. Responding to the press, Dr. Bui Van Hieu - the person in charge of excavating the Cao Quy stake field said that recently, the Institute of Archaeology not only took wood samples for Carbon 14 radioactive isotope identification, but also took stratigraphic soil samples for analysis and dating. From the initial archaeological results combined with historical documents, it can be concluded that "the Cao Quy stake field is a battlefield dating back to the late 13th century, most likely related to the battle against the Yuan army in 1288 by the Tran army and people". Prof. Dr. Vu Minh Giang, Chairman of the Council of Interdisciplinary Professors of History - Archeology - Ethnology, Vice Chairman of the National Heritage Council, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, assessed: The discovery of the Cao Quy stake field has great value, opening up a new direction of research, approach and awareness of the Bach Dang victory in 1288 of the Tran Dynasty army and people against the Yuan-Mongol invaders. This is a victory that has been affirmed by domestic and foreign scholars to have extremely important significance for the history of the nation and the world. Because it was from the defeat at Bach Dang in 1288 that the Yuan-Mongol army had to stop expanding its invasion of Southeast Asian countries and Japan. Photo: NPV |
