This visit by the French Navy ship is one of the specific activities to implement the contents of the agreement between the senior leaders and the Defense Ministries of the two countries in recent times, contributing to strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two armies in general and between the two navies in particular, becoming increasingly deeper and more effective.
During their stay in Vietnam, the ship's command group will pay courtesy calls to the leaders of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, Khanh Hoa Provincial Military Command, Naval Region 4 Command and the Naval Academy; in particular, the two sides will conduct joint search and rescue exercises and practice the Code of Conduct for Unplanned Encounters at Sea (CUES).

The Tonnerre has a displacement of 21,300 tons, is 199m long, 32m wide, and has a draft of 6.3m. It is the second largest warship in France, after the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle. The ship is designed as a command center at sea carrying helicopters, hospital ships, troops and landing equipment. The crew consists of 60 officers, 133 officer cadets (including 14 cadets from outside the French Republic), and 322 non-commissioned officers and sailors. The ship visited Ho Chi Minh City in 2013 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and France. |
