(Baonghean.vn) - The sharp decrease in livestock and poultry prices; the widespread sale of fake seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides; environmental pollution, food safety and hygiene; and many shortcomings in vocational training... are "hot" issues that farmers are concerned about, as mentioned at the conference to review the work of the Farmers' Association and the farmers' movement in the first 6 months of 2017, held in Vinh City on the morning of July 14.

Attending the conference were leaders of the Provincial Farmers' Association and representatives of Farmers' Associations of districts, cities and towns.

Assessment at the conference showed that in the first 6 months of 2017, the Associations at all levels closely followed the targets set by the province, the Central Government, the Provincial Association and the local political tasks to direct implementation, with many targets reaching over 50% of the yearly plan.

The movements: Farmers compete in good production and business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably; Farmers compete in building new rural areas and Farmers participate in ensuring national defense and security have achieved many remarkable results.

In the first 6 months of the year, districts, cities and towns have admitted 4,974 members (reaching 52.41% of the assigned target), removed 2,979 members from the list, the total number of members in the province to date is 522,439 members.

Notably, in the first 6 months of the year, the associations at all levels have coordinated with banks to guarantee loans for farmers to produce and do business. Up to now, associations at all levels in the province have guaranteed loans to farmers through the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development with outstanding loans reaching over 842 billion VND; and entrusted loans through the Social Policy Bank to poor farmers and other policy beneficiaries with outstanding loans reaching over 2,125 billion VND, an increase of over 30 billion VND compared to the beginning of 2016. Regarding the development of the Farmers Support Fund, in the first 6 months of the year alone, it increased by 3.2 billion VND.

At the conference, representatives of farmers' associations of districts, cities and towns presented issues of concern in recent activities, and expressed the thoughts and aspirations of farmers.

Opinions revolved around the discussion of the sharp drop in prices of livestock and poultry, causing huge economic losses to livestock households, especially large-scale farms, while the cost of feed and veterinary medicine did not decrease, but even increased; the widespread sale of fake seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides caused great losses to farmers...

Besides, vocational training for farmers, especially farmers in areas where land has been recovered, still has many shortcomings. In some places, vocational training is not provided to the right subjects and needs, leading to a waste of human resources invested by the state and society.

Synthesizing the discussion opinions and recommendations of representatives of farmers' associations of districts, cities and towns, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Farmers' Association affirmed that with recommendations within its authority, there will be quick clarification and solutions.

In addition, the Association will coordinate with sectors to attract resources for short-term vocational training and training on transferring science and technology to farmers; strengthen coordination with the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and the Social Policy Bank to provide credit for farmers to borrow capital for production./.
