Sustainable poverty eradication policies are needed in mountainous regions.

(Baonghean.vn) - As part of their working program in Tuong Duong district, on the afternoon of October 2nd, the delegation of National Assembly representatives from Nghean province, led by Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Le Quang Huy, held a meeting with voters in Can village, Tam Thai commune.

The voter outreach program took place at the Can village community house, Tam Thai commune.

Attending the meeting with voters were delegate Vi Thi Huong, a representative from the State Bank of Vietnam in the province, leaders of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district, the Agricultural Bank, the Social Policy Bank of the district, the People's Committee of Tam Thai commune, and voters from Ban Can village.

Tam Thai is a model commune for new rural development in Tuong Duong district. It is expected that the commune will achieve its new rural development goals by 2015. Currently, Tam Thai has built 11 solid criteria, with 3 completed in 2014 and 5 more to be completed in 2015. Thanks to the diligence, hard work, and dynamism of its people and local government, Tam Thai commune is becoming a shining example of economic, cultural, social, and national security development in the western part of Nghe An province.

Representative Vi Thi Huong presented the contents related to the upcoming 8th session of the 13th National Assembly.

Located on the road leading to the Tam Hop border gate, Can village has 257 households, mainly inhabited by the Thai ethnic minority. It is an ancient village with a long history. In 2002, Can village was recognized as a Cultural Village. Voters in Can village have raised the following issues: Children of ethnic minorities cannot find jobs after graduating from universities and colleges; local youth have to seek work elsewhere. The government needs to bring factories to the district to create jobs for local youth; there is a need for sustainable poverty eradication policies, ensuring that each household lifted out of poverty is secure and preventing relapse.

Tam Thai commune currently has the strategic Tam Thai – Tam Hop road. Since the road was opened, the increased transport of timber from Laos has damaged the road, causing hardship for the local people. In addition, voters have also complained about the unpopular working style and attitude of officials at the commune health station and district general hospital; and the shortcomings and limitations in preserving the culture of ethnic minorities. The situation of ethnic minority children growing up illiterate and not knowing their own language needs to be studied and considered by the National Assembly as a matter of preserving ethnic minority culture…

Voters in Can village, Tam Thai commune, are concerned about improving medical ethics, creating jobs, and achieving sustainable poverty reduction for ethnic minorities.

Voter Kha Dinh Tam reflected: "For a long time, people in the village and commune have been complaining that to get a job, you need about 200 million VND. If that's true, then who should that money be given to? Why is it that children from families with power and connections can get jobs, while children from poor families find it very difficult?"

Addressing the issues raised by voters, Mr. Trinh Minh Chau, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong District, stated that providing employment for children of ethnic minorities is a major concern. Tuong Duong District always adheres strictly to the policies and regulations of the Provincial People's Committee. “Regarding the information about paying money to secure a job, I assure you that this was completely absent during the recent recruitment process. All recruitment exams were conducted openly and transparently. Prior to recruitment, announcements were made through the press. The selection committee prioritized and awarded points to children of ethnic minorities in accordance with regulations. If any negative issues or bribery occurred during the recruitment process, I will take full responsibility,” Mr. Trinh Minh Chau affirmed.

In addition, the leaders of Tuong Duong district also explained a number of issues such as the conduct and working methods of medical staff, the issue of bonuses for policy beneficiaries who receive medals and awards, etc.

Regarding medical ethics, National Assembly representative Vi Thi Huong affirmed that in recent years, the Nghe An Health sector has strived to improve medical ethics; strengthening the hotline system to report any cases of officials, doctors, or nurses exhibiting poor attitudes or harassing patients, and urging them to report to hospital leaders. The health sector greatly needs the cooperation of the people to perform its tasks even better.

Speaking at the meeting, Comrade Le Quang Huy highly appreciated the efforts of Tam Thai commune and Can village in developing their socio-economic conditions. In the coming time, the National Assembly delegation of Nghe An province will have a working program with the People's Committee of Nghe An province, and the opinions of the voters in Can village will be presented by the National Assembly delegation during the meeting. Issues falling under the authority of the National Assembly will be compiled by the delegation and submitted as recommendations at subsequent sessions.
