(Baonghean) - A reporter from Baonghean Newspaper had a conversation with teacher Vo Thi Hanh from Hung Dung Secondary School, Vinh City.

- Hello Ms. Vo Thi Hanh! Belonging to the 80s generation, a student of Phan Boi Chau Specialized High School, a second-place winner in the National History Olympiad, and having been admitted directly to university… what led you to choose the teaching profession instead of another more attractive career?

- My generation and the present generation often prefer professions like law, economics, and diplomacy. However, for me, ever since my days studying at Phan High School, with the kind guidance and teaching of my teachers, I have come to love the teaching profession immensely and dream of one day being like them… Besides that, I think choosing a career in teaching is a suitable choice for me, as I wish to contribute to the noble cause of educating future generations.

- "Teachers are not just people who cram knowledge into students' minds, but rather people who ignite the flame in their souls." For a long time, the subject of History in schools faced difficulties; there were even suggestions to "integrate History" into another subject… How did you manage to "keep the flame alive" in yourself and your students regarding their love for History?

- Most importantly, it requires passion and enthusiasm for the profession, and a love for children. As a history teacher, I understand the reasons why students today are no longer as enthusiastic about history as before; therefore, I must strive to ignite their passion for the subject. I connect the transmission of knowledge with fostering love for the homeland and national pride; during the teaching process, I strive to innovate methods and organize learning in a way that makes history engaging and interesting through historical games, historical identification, historical crosswords, etc. Then, I try to help students connect their historical knowledge to reality in a vivid way...

- At less than 30 years old, you achieved something unexpected at the 2016 Provincial Excellent Teacher Competition for Secondary Schools, winning first prize. Could you share your secrets and what advice would you give to young people who are considering pursuing a career in education?

- To achieve that success, I received a lot of support from my colleagues, the City Education Department, my family, and my former teachers. Their sincere feedback and professional support motivated me to confidently enter the competition and complete my entry successfully…

I hope that all of you pursuing a career in education will first and foremost pursue your choice with the passion and enthusiasm of youth, with boundless love for your students. Don't have unrealistic expectations for this profession, because for a teacher, happiness cannot be measured in money. The greatest happiness is seeing your students grow and mature, and each of us will feel proud to have contributed to honoring the teaching profession, "the noblest of all noble professions"...

Thank you for the conversation!
