The survey team worked with representatives of Long Thanh Primary School and Hoang Ta Thon Secondary School. |
At the meeting, Mr. Tran Van Hai - Principal of Long Thanh Primary School said that the teaching method according to the VNEN model helps students develop good group skills, collective activities and confidence in communication and integration with society. After a period of implementing teaching according to this model, parents and students basically agree.
Representatives of parents and teachers of Long Thanh Primary School proposed to be supported with additional facilities to serve teaching and learning. Regarding this issue, the school is gradually balancing and arranging to gradually supplement.
Mr. Tran Van Hai suggested that the transfer of teachers was not reasonable, such as transferring teachers from schools that do not apply the VNEN model to schools that apply the VNEN model and vice versa, causing difficulties for schools in applying the VNEN model.
Regarding Hoang Ta Thon Secondary School, Ms. Duong Thu Ha - Principal of the school said that the school has been implementing teaching according to the VNEN model for 2 months, basically students are self-motivated in learning, dynamic, meeting the innovative requirements of this new teaching method.

However, the training program for teachers is still too limited; the regulation that principals are not allowed to check teachers' lesson preparation books or evaluate class observations, and teachers are not required to prepare lesson plans, somewhat affects the management of teaching quality in schools.
In addition, some knowledge in textbooks is not presented accurately, and the questions are unreasonable. The student assessment section based on comments still has many shortcomings, because secondary school teachers have to manage and teach many classes. The classrooms are lacking, the area is small, and there are many students, making it difficult for group activities, and teachers cannot cover everything to closely guide students during class.
For textbooks following the VNEN model, the knowledge formation section has some subjects that are not divided into titles and are too long, causing difficulties for teachers and students. Some open-ended questions make it difficult for students to find answers.

In fact, teaching according to this model requires teachers to be well-prepared, thoughtful and dedicated to be able to meet the requirements of the lesson. However, the preparation of teaching aids and equipment is mostly done by teachers or students, which is costly for teachers and students because the school does not have financial support.
Sharing the same opinion with Ms. Duong Thu Ha, Mr. Mai Van Ngoan, who teaches Physics - Chemistry - Biology at Hoang Ta Thon Secondary School, also said that the amount of knowledge is too much, while the number of teaching periods is too few, causing difficulties for teachers and students in conveying and absorbing knowledge when applying the VNEN method.
Through teaching practice, teacher Mai Van Ngoan said that in order for students to absorb the knowledge, it is necessary to flexibly apply both traditional teaching programs and the VNEN model.

Another problem when teaching according to the VNEN model is the assessment of students when implementing the comments; due to the regulation that the comments are not public, it does not encourage the emulation movement of students in learning. Besides, the school is still confused in using the software to assess and comment on students according to the VNEN model.
Ms. Duong Thu Ha also said that, regarding teaching costs, after no longer receiving support from the pilot project, the school encountered many difficulties in equipping facilities as well as purchasing teaching equipment for students and teachers.
On behalf of the school's staff and teachers, Ms. Ha proposed that the number of students should be reduced; schools teaching according to VNEN should have their own assessment and survey criteria, and should not apply the same curriculum as schools teaching according to the traditional model.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Hoang Danh Truyen - Vice Chairman of Yen Thanh District People's Committee agreed with the feedback of school teachers on the application of teaching according to the VNEN model; the authorities need to research and survey carefully in deciding which teaching model to apply based on the practical conditions of the localities in order to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the province./.
