(Baonghean.vn) - From January 1, 2018, the law on wages and social insurance contributions for employees has new points. To help employers better understand this issue, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs in coordination with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Nghe An organized training for agencies and enterprises.

On the morning of April 17, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs coordinated with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Nghe An to organize a training course on legal regulations on wages and gender mainstreaming in social insurance, updating new points applicable to gender for employers.

At the training session, Dr. Do Ngan Binh, a law student, updated the legal regulations on wages and social insurance contributions for employees from January 1, 2018 onwards; solutions for businesses on wages and social insurance contributions based on flexible application of legal regulations; resolving risks related to wages and social insurance contributions as well as labor contracts and new regulations on maternity insurance. At the same time, he answered and advised trainees on issues and difficulties of businesses in implementing the law on labor contracts; wages and social insurance contributions.

Through the training course, the Organizing Committee hopes that trainees will grasp the legal regulations on wages and social insurance contributions for employees; new regulations on maternity insurance, thereby flexibly applying them in the process of performing their tasks.

Specifically, 7 changes from January 1, 2018 are as follows:

1. Increase regional minimum wage

Region I: VND 3,980,000/month (increase of VND 230,000 compared to the current regulation of VND 3,750,000/month).

Region II: VND 3,530,000/month (increase of VND 210,000 compared to the current regulation of VND 3,320,000/month).

Region III: VND 3,090,000/month (increase of VND 190,000 compared to the current regulation of VND 2,900,000/month).

Region IV: VND 2,760,000/month (increase of VND 180,000 compared to the current regulation of VND 2,580,000/month).

2. Add mandatory subjects to participate in social insurance

Including: Employees working under labor contracts with a term of 1 month to less than 3 months; Employees who are foreign citizens working in Vietnam with a work permit or practice certificate or practice license issued by a competent authority of Vietnam are eligible to participate in compulsory social insurance according to Government regulations.

This means that part-time or seasonal workers with a term of 1 month to less than 3 months and foreign workers are required to participate in social insurance.

3. Increase monthly salary for social insurance contribution

Monthly salary for social insurance contribution from January 1, 2018 onwards includes: salary, salary allowance and other supplements according to labor law regulations.

4. Extend the time to calculate monthly pension

5. Illegal dismissal of employees, coercion or threats to force employees to quit their jobs can be punished with up to 3 years in prison.

6. Evading payment of social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance for employees can result in imprisonment for individuals and fines for legal entities.

7. Violating regulations on the use of workers under 16 years old can be punished with up to 12 years in prison.
