Beware of cheap airline ticket scams on Facebook and Zalo

On May 3, the Hanoi City Police Department of High-Tech Crime Prevention said that during the verification process, the police determined that there were 3 victims who were scammed by Truong Thi Thu Thao (21 years old, residing in Binh Thach district, Ho Chi Minh City) through the trick of selling cheap airline tickets.

To carry out her fraud, Thao posted advertisements for cheap airline tickets on the Facebook account “Han Han” and Zalo account “Gia Han”. When customers wanted to buy airline tickets, they would contact Thao through the two accounts above.

After agreeing to buy cheap airline tickets, Thao checked the flight, ticket price and booked a seat on the website of Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company.

After filling in all the information, Vietjet Air Joint Stock Company will send the flight ticket information to Thao's email to notify the confirmation of flight booking, customer name, time, and booking status "unpaid".

The ticket also requires customers to pay 24 hours in advance. If payment is not made within 24 hours, the ticket will be canceled.

Thao downloaded the email and used computer software to change the word "unpaid" to "confirmed" and deleted the line that required the customer to pay 24 hours in advance before sending it to the customer.

Customers who receive this ticket code mistakenly think that the airline ticket has been fully paid for and will transfer the ticket money back to Thao and have their airline ticket money appropriated.

With the above trick, Thao has tricked many victims into buying tickets worth up to tens of millions of dong. According to the police, many more victims in other provinces and cities have had their money stolen by the scammer.
