Be careful with missed calls from overseas.

On the afternoon of August 10th, a representative from Mobifone stated that the network provider had issued a warning to customers who frequently receive missed calls from certain phone numbers located abroad.

According to Mobifone, there are now phone numbers from abroad with codes +881XXXXXXXX, +882 XXXXXXX (typically numbers like 881945110601, 881935211504, 88213090879...) making bait calls and missed calls to domestic mobile subscribers to "lure" victims into calling back in order to incur high charges.

Further explaining how they "extort money" from domestic mobile subscribers, Mobifone stated that when Vietnamese mobile subscribers call the aforementioned international numbers, they are usually answered by an automated system, instructing the domestic mobile subscriber to dial an internal or extension number.

The purpose of this "trick" is to prolong the call duration, "trap" victims, and charge high fees to domestic mobile subscribers.

Mobifone advises its customers to be vigilant and carefully check the international phone number they intend to call before making a call to avoid incurring unexpected high charges.
