Angler reveals secret technique for catching wild snakehead fish to relieve stress.
Wild snakehead fish are extremely voracious eaters, and their firm flesh makes them the prey that anglers who fish for snakehead (lure fishing) always want to conquer whenever they leave home. It's not just fishing; it's also a hobby, a sport enjoyed by many young people.
A lure angler in Lam Dong province said, "Compared to regular anglers, snakehead fishing is quite easy. We only need a fishing rod and a box with a few artificial lures, and we can go out to catch fish."

The fishing gear used by lure anglers is quite simple and lightweight.
My fishing gear consists only of a small crossbody bag, a two-piece fishing rod, a bait box, a reel case, and a small folding knife.
According to Anh Van Long, an experienced angler, snakehead fish are quite bold predators. They often hide in small patches of grass right by the shore, waiting for prey to swim by before pouncing. Knowing this characteristic, anglers often cast their bait along the grassy areas near the shore, making it very easy for the fish to bite.

The spot right at the edge of the lake, where lots of grass grows, is where anglers often go fishing.
Long said that although it had been raining a lot these past few days, the sun came out this morning, so the fish came out to feed. After only about 20 casts of the bait, Long saw activity, the eager snakehead fish chasing and tearing through the water. "You have to be patient, they're just playing with the bait, they haven't eaten yet. Wait until the bait is right in front of their mouths, then the fish will bite," Long whispered.
No sooner had he finished speaking and was reeling in the line than a sudden "snap" sent water splashing. Without rushing, Long loosened the line, and just 3 seconds later, it was taut. Gathering momentum, he yanked hard, and the fish was hooked. He slowly pulled the fish ashore; a fish weighing about 0.8 kg was brought ashore.

Wild snakehead fish have firm, healthy flesh and are extremely voracious eaters.
"Catching snakehead fish is simple, but understanding their habits and knowing when to fish and when not to is something not every angler knows. Snakehead fish are voracious eaters, but they only feed in the early morning or at sunset. It's best not to fish during hot, sunny weather or in rainy and windy conditions because they feed less during these times," Long revealed.
The cost of having a complete fishing kit is quite reasonable, but Long says that fishing gear for snakehead fish can last for several years, so you shouldn't skimp on money and should invest wisely. Avoid buying overly cheap equipment because "you get what you pay for," and you might need to replace it after only a few uses.

With just a fishing rod and a box of artificial bait, anglers can catch fish to bring home.
Things you need for someone who wants to go snakehead fishing include a spinning rod costing around 800,000 VND or more. A reel, depending on personal preference and skill, can be a baitcasting or spinning reel (priced from 600,000 to 900,000 VND depending on your budget). A spool of PE line costs around 200,000 VND, and at least two artificial lures are recommended to be able to fish in various terrains, such as open water or areas with lots of vegetation.
"Some people don't like using artificial lures; instead, they use single hooks and attach live frogs to them. However, this wastes bait, and sometimes it's hard to find enough to go fishing with. Nowadays, many artificial lure products are available to serve anglers, making it very convenient and flexible to change bait," said angler Van Long.

The fish came ashore after the angler cast his bait multiple times.
Bait anglers often use spinning reels because they can cast far and are highly accurate. Spinning reels are particularly compact, flexible, and lightweight, allowing anglers to cast hundreds of times per fishing trip. However, beginners find casting with spinning reels quite difficult; the line easily tangles, and beginners may spend up to two-thirds of their time untangling the line.
"It's all about personal preference, and besides, when I'm tired after work, I want to take my fishing rod to the lake to relieve stress. Or on days off, I go fishing with friends by the lake, and if I catch anything, I grill it right away and have a few beers – what could be better?" Long confided.

Before he had a fishing rod, Long could catch fish using just a bamboo rod and fishing line.
