Canada's Department of Justice has received a formal request from the United States to extradite Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou, CBC reported.

Previously, CNN said the deadline for submitting the final request was January 30.
According to CBC, the Canadian Ministry of Justice confirmed on January 28 that it had received a formal request from the United States. A judge in the province of British Columbia must now decide whether there is sufficient evidence to warrant extradition. The Minister of Justice will then make the final decision.
Earlier, the Chinese government informed the Canadian Embassy of an investigation into two citizens suspected of undermining China's national security, Michael Kovrig and Michael Speyvor. Both were detained. Media reports said the arrest of the two Canadian citizens was a retaliation for the Meng Wanzhou case.
The United States is seeking the extradition of the daughter of Huawei's founder on suspicion of violating US trade sanctions against Iran. China's Foreign Ministry has expressed opposition to both Canada and the United States.
