Cua Lo Port is a Class 1 seaport located on an international maritime transport route, serving as a transportation hub for the North Central region of Vietnam, transshipping goods to Laos and the northern provinces of Thailand. From Cua Lo Port, there are currently international shipping routes to Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, the Americas, and vice versa. The port's designed capacity is 2-2.5 million tons per year, and a deep-water port capable of receiving vessels with a tonnage of 30,000-50,000 DWT is currently under construction. Currently, Cua Lo Port can accommodate four vessels simultaneously, each with a tonnage of 10,000 tons. Daily cargo handling capacity is 6,000-8,000 tons, with an annual throughput of nearly one million tons.
Currently, the port has been dredged, expanded, and upgraded to accommodate 20,000-ton vessels, increasing the annual cargo throughput to over 2 million tons. In the long term, with the tourism development plan to transform Cua Lo into a resort area, the use of small and medium-sized vessels is feasible. Geographically, ships from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Hainan Island (China) can all include Cua Lo in their itineraries, and with just a few days ashore, visitors can explore famous tourist destinations in Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and even the Phong Nha-Ke Bang World Heritage Site. Passenger ships are a large and thriving business, especially among the elderly, making them an ideal way to explore Asia and the East.
Cua Lo Port is ideally situated in North Central Vietnam for the development of the maritime services market. The potential for onshore excursions to some of Vietnam's most beautiful destinations makes Cua Lo an ideal location for both cruise companies and surrounding ports.
