Cua Lo Port welcomes international container ships to many places around the world

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 5, the first international container ship docked at Cua Lo Port, opening a new development direction for Vietnam's maritime transport and establishing many shipping routes from the Central region of Vietnam directly to ports around the world.

This morning (May 5),Cua Lo Portbelonging to Nghe Tinh Port Joint Stock Company - a member of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VIMC), welcomed the Bien Dong Mariner ship with a capacity of more than 1,000 Teus (about 23,000 tons) to dock, unload and transport goods to India. This is the first time Cua Lo Port has welcomed an international container ship.

The first time receiving a container ship on an international shipping route has helped Cua Lo Port become a link in the container shipping route directly connecting Vietnam - Malaysia - India of VIMC, opening up a direction for development and establishing many container shipping routes from the Central region of Vietnam directly to ports around the world. Currently, Cua Lo Port only receives maritime container ships on domestic routes in Vietnam.

Mr. Le Quang Trung - Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VIMC) said: This event marks an important milestone and affirms the position of Cua Lo Port - the cargo transportation hub of the North Central seaport group. With a wharf length of nearly 1000 m, capable of receiving ships from 10,000 tons full load to 30,000 tons (DWT), along with many advanced loading and unloading equipment, modern warehouse system, Cua Lo Port has been contributing to promoting the economic growth of Nghe An province, and at the same time becoming a strategic link in the chain.logistics chainof VIMC.

According to the leader of the Maritime Corporation, the company will focus on developing the marine transport - seaport - logistics ecosystem to provide a complete service package for customers. Container transport plays a role in connecting with the network of seaport infrastructure and maritime services. With a container fleet, the company will improve the capacity of Vietnam's fleet, avoiding the situation where foreign cargo ships unreasonably increase freight rates, affecting the interests of cargo owners.

This event also affirms that Cua Lo Port is the most important hub for transporting goods and logistics services in the North Central region, contributing to the economic growth of Nghe An and the region, opening the door of the region to the world; from goods to India and Malaysia will go to other countries.

Previously, on October 26, 2021, VIMC established a container shipping route directly connecting Vietnam - Malaysia - India to bring VIMC's specialized container shipping fleet to run direct routes with ports outside Southeast Asia (not combined with foreign container shipping vessels) to reduce the pressure of transporting goods and stabilize the supply of transportation, supporting domestic enterprises.

The container shipping route directly connecting Vietnam - Malaysia - India is VIMC's determination and effort to contribute to Vietnamese enterprises moving towards the global market, creating momentum for Vietnam's economy to develop more strongly after the pandemic. At the same time, this is also a very positive signal for Vietnam's trade activities in the future.

Nghe Tinh Port is a major national general port cluster in the Central region, including Cua Lo Port and Ben Thuy Port. In which, Cua Lo Port - a class I seaport located on the international maritime traffic route, is the main traffic hub of Nghe An province and the North Central provinces, with the function of transiting goods to Laos.

According to the planning approved by the Prime Minister, Cua Lo Port has 6 wharves, of which 4 wharves (wharves No. 1, 2, 3, 4) are in operation, designed for ships of 10,000 tons managed by Nghe Tinh Port Joint Stock Company and the remaining 2 wharves (No. 5, 6) are designed for ships of 30,000 tons invested by Tuan Loc Construction Investment Joint Stock Company (the project started in April 2015).

The main business activities of Nghe Tinh Port in Cua Lo and Ben Thuy areas include: Port and port services; Warehouse and bonded warehouse business; Loading, unloading, preserving and delivering goods; Escorting and rescuing at sea; Freight transport agency, ship agency; Repairing water and land transport vehicles; Construction and repair of port works. In particular, revenue from providing services in Cua Lo area always accounts for a large proportion (more than 90% of the company's revenue).
