Warning about scam apps on Facebook

Hackers have created and widely spread on Facebook a fraudulent application called "editing photos of Wu Zetian" to hijack users' accounts.

Bkav Cyber ​​Security Company said that recently, many users in Vietnam, out of curiosity and carelessness, have accessed the "Vu Tac Thien photo editing" application on Facebook and then logged into a website that "imitates" the interface of this social network and had their accounts hijacked.

Taking advantage of the popularity of the movie “Legend of Wu Zetian” which has been shown on television in many countries since the end of last year, along with the “fever” of the photo editing software Pitu “following” the movie created in the community of mobile device users running iOS and Android platforms, hackers have created and widely spread on Facebook the fraudulent application “editing photos of Wu Zetian” to hijack users’ accounts.

Mr. Ngo Tuan Anh, Vice President in charge of Cyber ​​Security, Bkav Group, said that taking advantage of many people's curiosity and love of novelty, bad guys shared on users' walls an invitation to use the "Vu Tac Thien photo editing" application.

When users click on the invitation to use this fraudulent application, instead of being supported in editing photos to transform into Wu Zetian, they are lured to access a website with an interface similar to Facebook with the domain name “tienlen.zapto.org”. In fact, this is a website that impersonates Facebook to trick and take over the accounts of users of this social network.

“As more and more people join social networks like Facebook, new forms will appear and bad guys will always come up with new tricks and methods to commit their crimes. Therefore, users need to be more vigilant. In particular, users must be careful when clicking and following any instructions online, because those instructions can lead to malware and we ourselves can put malware on our devices. One of the important factors is to equip anti-malware software and run it constantly on the computer to be able to fully protect against risks from the internet,” said Mr. Ngo Tuan Anh.
