According to the Central Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting Center, due to the influence of a strong cold front, severe cold weather and frost have been and are occurring over a wide area in the northern and north-central provinces.

The average daily temperature is generally around 11-14 degrees Celsius, and in mountainous areas around 7-10 degrees Celsius. In some high-altitude areas, the average daily temperature is below 3 degrees Celsius, such as Sa Pa (0.5 degrees) and Mau Son (0.1 degrees). Frost has appeared in some high-altitude areas.

Currently, the cold air mass is continuing to intensify, so over the next 2-3 days, temperatures in the northern and north-central provinces will tend to rise slowly and will remain at levels of severe cold.

Forecasts indicate that another cold front will move into Vietnam around the night of January 8th and early morning of January 9th, therefore the severe cold weather in the northern provinces will continue until around January 13th and 14th.

Therefore, it is highly likely that this widespread cold spell will last for another 6-7 days.
