The battery warning light coming on while driving is a mistake that many drivers do not pay attention to. If not handled promptly, it will cause damage to the vehicle, affecting safety when participating in traffic.

Reasons why the battery light comes on

The cause of the battery warning light coming on could be a damaged or corroded battery cable, other wiring components of the charging system, or a problem with the voltage regulator or power supply.

It could also be that the alternator is not running. This could be due to a loose or broken alternator drive belt. If the drive belt is fine, it could be that the field wires behind the alternator are loose or broken, or worse, the alternator is broken.

It could also be that the wire between the battery and the generator is broken. Although this wire is quite large, sturdy and can last the life of the vehicle. However, in many cases the power source is broken due to rats biting during the vehicle's storage or simply because the terminal contact point is loose.

As soon as the warning light appears while driving, the driver needs to stay calm and avoid making mistakes. The worst thing that drivers do is remove the battery while the car is running. As a result, many systems on the car are paralyzed or even completely dead. The repair takes a lot of time and is extremely expensive.

Therefore, keep the vehicle running normally, but turn off all unnecessary electrical equipment such as lights, sound systems, air conditioning systems, etc. to limit battery consumption and immediately take the vehicle to a repair center for handling.

In case you are far away and cannot get to a reputable service center, the temporary solution is to take the car to the nearest service workshop, turn off the engine, remove the battery, charge it fully, install it and then take the car back to the workshop. Immediately after removing and installing the battery, some systems on some high-end cars may report errors but not to a dangerous level.

Driver mistakes cause batteries to fail quickly

Connecting the electrical system haphazardly to install other devices such as DVD players, readers, speakers, etc. Unsafe wires and connectors can cause short circuits, electrical leaks, and waste electricity when the car is in sleep mode.

Leave the lights and electrical devices on when the car is not running. The lights or sound system can drain the battery in just a few hours and may not start the engine. Furthermore, letting the battery run out of power before restarting the engine to recharge it will cause the battery to deteriorate faster.

Flooded cars, short-circuited wires or plugs not only drain the power source but also paralyze many parts of the car.

Starting and stopping the engine repeatedly: turning off the engine when stopping at a red light (over 40 seconds) in the city will save fuel to some extent, but is not beneficial for the battery life.
