Warning: Vinh City has destroyed nearly 10,000 poultry in the epidemic area.

(Baonghean.vn) - Currently, bird flu has appeared in Vinh city. Vinh city People's Committee has provided 350 liters of disinfectant chemicals to 14/25 localities to implement environmental sanitation.

Mr. Bui Xuan Giap's family farm in Dong Vinh ward, Vinh city is one of the first places where bird flu appeared in Nghe An. The epidemic started on the afternoon of February 10, 2017 when chickens showed unusual symptoms and died in large numbers.

The family reported to the quarantine agency to take samples for testing in region III and the results were positive for influenza A H5N1.

Since the outbreak was detected, quarantine checkpoints and guard posts have been set up at the farm to prevent people from entering and trading. On the morning of February 12, 2017, the People's Committee of Dong Vinh Ward destroyed all 2,700 sick poultry of Mr. Giap's family. The remaining 3,400 were vaccinated to control the outbreak.

On February 15, new poultry continued to die. All remaining poultry were destroyed (6,100 birds). Nghe An Provincial Veterinary Department also sprayed disinfectant and sterilized the farm area.

Mr. Cao Van Toan - Chairman of Dong Vinh Ward People's Committee, Vinh City, Nghe An said: "The Ward People's Committee has met with representatives of 2 cooperatives, 14 residential blocks, owners of farms and ranches, officially notified people not to use or trade poultry of unknown origin and coordinate with veterinary staff to isolate the epidemic area".

The total number of poultry in Vinh city is not large, the farms and households are mainly small-scale. However, because it is located in a residential area with abundant trade, disease control is relatively difficult. People are still quite subjective in vaccinating poultry.

In order to promptly implement disease prevention and control, Vinh City People's Committee issued Official Letter No. 748/UBND - KT dated February 14, 2017 to direct the prevention of poultry diseases in Vinh City. At the same time, Vinh City People's Committee coordinated with Vinh City Livestock and Veterinary Station to focus on implementing measures to suppress the outbreak and prevent bird flu from spreading widely.

Thus, up to now, in Nghe An province, there have been 6 outbreaks of avian influenza, located in Dien Chau, Do Luong districts and Vinh city.
