The lonely scene of two children orphaned by a traffic accident

Although he is 57 years old, Mr. Lo Van Huyen, from Chieng Xa Tri Le village, Que Phong district (Nghe An), still has to take care of two young grandchildren left behind by his son who died in a traffic accident.

As reported by Nghe An Newspaper, on July 7, 2017, Mr. Cuong and his wife, Ms. Luong Thi Phuong Lan, had an accident on Doc Chuoi, in Chau Kim Commune. The accident caused Mr. Cuong to die on the spot. Ms. Lan was seriously injured and has now recovered.

Mr. Lo Van Huyen said that Mr. Cuong married Ms. Lan in 2013. Shortly after that, they built their own house right next to Mr. Huyen's house. Mr. Cuong and Ms. Lan had two children, Lo Thi Linh Nhi (2014) and Lo Duc Thien (2016). Like many families in Chieng village, the family's finances were tight.

After giving birth to Thien, Ms. Lan went to China to work illegally. From then on, the two had conflicts.

"Shortly before the accident, Ms. Lan returned home. The couple agreed to divorce. In the agreement in court, Mr. Cuong adopted the two children and Ms. Lan gave him 7 million VND as "support". After the accident, a short time after Ms. Lan recovered, she stayed at her mother's house without taking care of her two young children. The young couple's house has since been abandoned," Mr. Huyen said.

Since then, the two children have lived with their grandparents. Mr. Huyen is old and weak. His wife has a stomach disease and cannot do any work. His main income comes from a few fields of rice without any other source of income. In addition, he has to support his 84-year-old mother. This old farmer in the border village is also having difficulty completing the procedures for his two children to enjoy the orphan status according to current regulations because he admits that he is "ignorant".

The death of his son seemed to be too great a shock. The old man, who was also the Party Secretary of Chieng village, always looked pensive. Mr. Huyen had to try very hard to keep a calm face to talk to visitors.
