(Baonghean.vn) - Up to this point, the door to grade 10 of public schools has closed for thousands of candidates, but the path of study is still open for them to choose to "continue", which is both suitable for their abilities and provides them with vocational knowledge to find a job right after completing the general education program.

Non-public schools "open their doors" to welcome candidates

Nguyen Truong To High School (Vinh City) has just announced the second round of admission to grade 10 for the 2023-2024 school year. Accordingly, students are admitted to the school with a fairly simple procedure, only need to graduate from junior high school, considered through two forms: considering academic records and considering grade 10 entrance exam scores for all students who do not pass their first choice. This year, Nguyen Truong To High School is assigned a quota of 14 classes with 630 students - equivalent to thepublic schoolsin Vinh city. Therefore, getting a place to study here is not difficult.

Currently, we have received about 400 applications, which means there are more than 200 places left for interested candidates. To encourage students, the school has a policy of 50-100% tuition fee exemption for students with good academic results or scholarships for students who are good at cultural subjects.

Talking about this year's enrollment, teacher Nguyen Thanh Binh - Vice Principal of Ngo Tri Hoa High School (private) (Dien Chau) said: "The characteristic of private high schools is that the quality of students is not high, most of them did not pass the 10th grade exam. Therefore, to reassure parents and students, in addition to teaching culture, we focus on moral education, building a safe and healthy educational environment. During the learning process, students are given the opportunity to study foreign languages for free so that after graduation, if they have the need, they can go to work abroad."

It is known that last school year, Ngo Tri Hoa High School was allocated 175 students for grade 10. Before the grade 10 entrance exam, through the form of reviewing academic records, the school received nearly 100 applications for admission. The school continued to enroll the remaining students after the schools had completed the enrollment of the first choice.

Also in the previous school year, in Dien Chau district, due to the increase in the number of students, some non-public schools, including Ngo Tri Hoa High School, were overloaded with students registering for school. Therefore, before the 10th grade entrance exam, some students with limited academic ability, who were streamed from middle school, their parents proactively registered their children early in the form of considering their transcripts. Therefore, the pressure of early admission was somewhat relieved.

This year's 10th grade entrance exam, according to the province's quota allocation, the admission rate to public schools is only 70 - 75%. The rest will go to non-public schools or vocational schools. Previously, in the 2023 - 2024 school year enrollment plan, the Department of Education and Training also allocated 5,300 quotas with 121 classes to non-public, advanced schools, and Vinh TH School. This is also considered a solution to help students who fail to pass the public school entrance exam have the opportunity to continue studying in 10th grade.

There are even many students who do not need to take the 10th grade entrance exam to register and be admitted early. The rest, even if they fail, can register for advanced school models or high-quality schools.

Mr. Tran Van Cong - parent of a student at Doi Cung Secondary School said: My daughter got 20.25 points and registered her first choice at Ha Huy Tap High School. However, with the current high standard score, the family is very worried. In case she fails her first choice, I hope she will be admitted to the advanced class. Although the family's financial situation is not good, we still try our best because her wish is to study in a quality educational environment.

Opportunity to get a “dual” degree

Tran Thi Minh Trang is currently a student in the culinary class at Nghi Loc - Nghe An Economic and Technical College. Three years ago, Trang failed the 10th grade entrance exam and was thinking about going to work. However, thanks to the advice of her teachers, she learned about the culinary profession and decided to enroll in the district's Economic and Technical College. Here, in addition to studying culture in the morning, Trang and her friends learn a trade in the afternoon. After 2 years of studying at the school, Trang was able to do an internship, get paid and have many job opportunities after graduation.

I do not regret my choice. I am currently doing an internship but I already earn 7-8 million VND/month. I also do not have to worry about finding a job after graduation, because there are many job opportunities outside.

The model of both vocational training and general education has been implemented in Nghe An for many years now, for students who have just graduated from junior high school.

Mr. Luong Anh Tuan - Principal of Nghi Loc - Nghe An Economic and Technical College said: "Many parents today still have the concept that their children must graduate from high school. But this is not the only way to success. In fact, students with limited abilities can choose to study a trade. At our school, during their studies, students are completely exempted from tuition fees, and they can study both culture and vocational training. After graduating, students will not only be introduced to jobs in the country but also have the opportunity to work abroad."

At the College of Economics and Technology No. 1, the school currently enrolls nearly 500 students each year, mainly students in the streaming program.

Most of the students at our school come from mountainous districts and initially they did not intend to study culture. However, after enrolling in the school, they were advised and continued to complete the general education program. After finishing school, they can take the 12th grade graduation exam, get both a graduation certificate and a vocational certificate. If any student wants to continue studying, they only need to study for 1 more year to get a college degree. The good news is that all students while studying at the school have been recruited by businesses...

Currently, the model of both vocational and cultural studies in Nghe An is quite popular. Students can study at vocational schools or register through continuing education centers. Some non-public schools also cooperate with vocational schools to organize on-site vocational training for students.

With these models, junior high school graduates can register for vocational training in three ways. First, they can both study vocational training and the high school cultural program with 4-6 subjects; after obtaining a vocational secondary diploma and completing the cultural program, they will continue to study at the college level. Second, they can both study vocational training and the high school cultural program and take the graduation exam with students in the whole province; after completing the program, if qualified, they will study at the college or university level. Third, they can only study at the vocational secondary school.

At the Center for Vocational Education - Continuing Education of Vinh City, in the past, enrollment faced many difficulties. But now, each year the Center has more than 500 students registering to study, in the form of both cultural and vocational studies, the school's annual high school graduation rate (grade 12) is over 98%.

If they do not pass the entrance exam to public schools, there are still many opportunities for students. Any environment where they really try can achieve positive results. Particularly, the model of both studying culture and learning a profession has its own advantages because students can study a profession for free and have their cultural subjects reduced. After finishing grade 12, they can take the graduation exam and have the same rights as all students in public schools. Moreover, they have a "dual" diploma, which is both a cultural diploma and a vocational diploma. That can help them easily find a job or can study advanced, enter colleges and universities if they wish./.
