During the hot summer days, a series of products labeled "air conditioners" suddenly hit the market and were rushed by consumers. But do these products really cool the body as advertised?

1.5 million/air conditioner shirt still attracts customers

Summer is considered the enemy of women when everyone is worried about sunburn. That is also the reason why the market for sun protection clothing becomes bustling at the beginning of summer. Grasping the great demand of the market, suppliers have launched all kinds of sun protection clothing, from popular to high-end, with extremely attractive advertisements and designs. Although there have been warnings about the "expensive" price, this year's UV sun protection clothing is still consumed strongly.

While regular sedge mats cost only 100,000 - 200,000 VND, air-conditioned mats are priced at 300,000 - 500,000 VND per piece (depending on the store). However, for the past few years, this type of mat has been the best-selling product along Hang Chieu Street, according to Ms. Xuan.

Consumers are being "pickpocketed" too easily?

In fact, most of the products mentioned above are just homemade items following the "fever" of air-conditioning fans for students. To make "air-conditioning" clothes, people can order a complete cooling machine for 1.2 million VND and then choose fabric to tailor a separate sun-protection shirt. A cooling machine consists of 2 small fans. Users can adjust the fan speed to 4 levels.

The installation of the machine is quite simple. Just sew a regular shirt, then design 2 small holes below to install the fan. Advertised as compact but because the battery is quite large, it is difficult for users to store, if put in the pocket will be very tight, long use time feels hot.

Similarly, analyzing mini air conditioners, Mr. Minh Duong, owner of a shop specializing in repairing air conditioners on Ly Nam De street, said: "Mini air conditioners are no different from toys because their cooling capacity is too small and their cooling area is often not as large as a person's face. A mini air conditioner that works with 4 AA batteries with a voltage of 1.5V/battery, or a total of 6V, has a cooling capacity that cannot "compete" with room temperatures of up to 36 - 38 degrees Celsius.

If you use the power source directly from the computer via the USB cable, the voltage will only reach 5V, so the cooling ability like an air conditioner is really impossible. Not to mention, if the room is airtight and the air is hot and stuffy, this air conditioner will be completely ineffective.

According to the refrigeration expert, the air conditioning screen currently sold on the market does have the function of air conditioning, but this screen is only cool when completely closed. When the air conditioning screen is operating, the temperature can drop to 18 degrees Celsius, so the inside of the screen is quite cool. However, because the space inside the screen is narrow and not airy, the air inside the screen is difficult to circulate, causing the user to have difficulty breathing.

Drawing on her experience after using the air-conditioned mat for 1 month, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang (Vong Ha, Hanoi) said: “The air-conditioned mat is no different from a normal mat. This mat is not only not as cool as the seller advertised, but also quite stuffy. Not only that, after the first wash, the lining of the mat made of thin fabric was torn, the stitching came loose, it was a waste of money.”
